A welcome from your Class Teachers
We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 4 and look forward to an exciting, rewarding and memorable year of learning.
Year 4 is an important stage in your child's primary education as they continue to develop their independence, resilience and confidence as learners. Throughout the year, we will provide a wide range of engaging and inspiring learning opportunities that encourage every child to achieve their full potential, challenge themselves and enjoy learning across the curriculum.
Reading remains at the heart of everything we do, and we encourage all children to read regularly at home to help develop their fluency, comprehension and love of books. Alongside this, children will continue to build their skills in writing, mathematics and the wider curriculum through exciting, hands-on learning experiences.
Throughout the year, children will practise their times tables in fun and engaging ways, helping them feel confident for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June. We will support them throughout the year to develop quick recall of their times tables through regular practice, helping them to feel confident and prepared to do their very best.
We will keep you informed through our class page, Facebook page, newsletters and school communication systems. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, concerns or information you would like to share.

How You Can Support Your Child
You play a vital role in your child's success, and we value the partnership between home and school. You can support your child by:
Listening to them read regularly.
Practising spellings and times tables.
Encouraging them to talk about what they are learning.
Ensuring homework is completed and returned on time.
Helping them develop independence and good learning habits.
Our Class Saint
Saint Theresa of Calcutta is our class saint - she dedicated her life to serving the sick and poorest of the poor. Saint Theresa helps us understand the importance of helping the poor and vulnerable which is an important part of our Catholic Social Teaching.

Attendance
At St Ambrose, we believe that every day counts. Good attendance helps children make excellent progress, strengthen friendships and make the most of every learning opportunity in Year 4.
Year 4 is an exciting and important year as children continue to build on their knowledge and become increasingly independent learners. They develop greater confidence in reading, writing and mathematics while exploring a broad and engaging curriculum. During the year, children will also prepare for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), helping them develop rapid recall of their times tables. Regular attendance ensures they can fully access their learning, build confidence and enjoy all the opportunities Year 4 has to offer. We encourage all children to aim for 96% attendance or above.

Reading
Reading is so important for the mind and brain. In Year 4 we spend time reading individually, in lessons, and for enjoyment. Children are encouraged to read daily with their parents, and what they read is to be logged on the Go Read app.
When children and parents log their reading on Go Read, they can earn gems and exchange these for small rewards!
We have recently started using 'Complete Comprehension' to aid children reading and comprehension skills.
Please challenge you children with vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summary skills when they are reading with you.
