Welcome to Year 3!

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to what promises to be an exciting, rewarding, and memorable year of learning.

Year 3 is an important stage in your child’s journey as they move up into Key Stage 2. This year, we will encourage children to become more independent, curious, and confident learners while continuing to nurture their creativity, kindness, and love of learning.

We will keep you informed through our class page, Facebook page, newsletters, and school communication systems. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, concerns, or information you would like to share.

You play a vital role in your child's success, and we value the partnership between home and school. You can support your child by:

• Listening to them read regularly.

• Practising spellings and times tables.

• Encouraging them to talk about what they are learning.

• Ensuring homework is completed and returned on time.

• Helping them develop independence and good learning habits.

At St Ambrose, every day counts! Regular attendance helps Year 3 children settle into Key Stage 2, build confidence, make friends and enjoy their learning. Missing school can mean missing important lessons and experiences that are difficult to catch up on.

Our attendance target is 96% or above.

How Parents Can Help

• Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day.
• Book appointments outside school hours where possible.
• Take holidays during school holidays.
• Let the school know as soon as possible if your child is ill.

In Year 3, Catholic children are given the special opportunity to prepare for and receive their First Holy Communion, a sacrament in which they receive the Body of Christ for the first time. This marks an important step in their faith journey, following preparation in both school and parish. Canon Lamb will arrange parent meetings closer to the time to provide further details, and the date for 2027 is yet to be confirmed.
