DATE: Friday 22nd November 2019
UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO UPDATED GDPR GUIDELINES WE ARE UNABLE TO PUBLISH ANY PICTURES OF THE CHILDREN THIS WEEK.
Good Afternoon,
This Sunday is the last Sunday of the Church's liturgical year and we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King and Youth Sunday. Each year we set aside this Sunday to reflect upon this title that we have given to Jesus. The Confirmation children have received a personal invitation to attend Mass with their families from Father Lamb.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:
Dear Lord Jesus,
Please help us to grow in the virtue of mercy - to be open to receiving your mercy and showing mercy to others.
Amen.
All children and their families (especially our Y6 confirmation candidates) are warmly invited to attend Mass at 11am on Sunday 24th November to celebrate 'Youth Sunday'.
VIRTUES:
Gospel Virtues are at the centre of our ethos and our policies, and run throughout every aspect of our curriculum to encourage our children to be kind, caring, forgiving and respectful.
Talk to your children about the Virtues for this half term, as they are growing to be attentive to their experience and to their vocation; and discerning about the choices they make and the effects of those choices.
A child from every class will be invited to afternoon tea on a Thursday for demonstrating the virtues.
CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY:
The children who received an award are:
Hannah M, Luca M, Lawrence D, Szymon G, Lara B, Izzy M, James B, Josh K, Max C, Harley V, Summer M-F, Katie V, Sonny J, Charlie C, Cian L & Amelia F.
If your son or daughter is selected to receive an award at a Celebration Assembly this year you will receive two invitations from school on a Thursday. The first invitation is a push notification and the second invite is a slip in your son or daughter's book bag.
Please pop into the school office at any time if you are not receiving the push notifications.
STAFF CHRISTMAS HAMPER:
Next week the staff will be selling raffle tickets for the staff Christmas hamper. All the money raised will be donated to the Parish Christmas Bazaar.
TAPP CHRISTMAS RAFFLE:
TAPP have been busily selling raffle tickets for their Christmas raffle at a cost of £1 per strip. All proceeds from the raffle are used to buy resources or Christmas gifts for our children.
Please see below the wonderful hampers that you could win!
PARISH CHRISTMAS BAZAAR:
The Parish Christmas Bazaar will be held after 11am Mass on Sunday 1st December. You are all warmly invited to attend. Father Lamb would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who donated a bottle for last week's mufti day and to the generous chocolate donations that have been gratefully received today.
NATIVITY COSTUMES:
I can’t believe we are nearly in December and getting ready for Christmas and hunting for Nativity costumes. A group of parents at Teapot Time have come up with a great idea that I would like to trial. If you have a costume at home and you would be happy to loan it to a child in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 please send it into school in a named bag by Monday. On Tuesday after school we will be displaying all the costumes so please pop in to borrow a costume rather than make or buy one. If you can’t make the event and you would like to borrow a costume please email the office at office@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk stating the costume and size you require.
The costumes we require are:
Pigs | Dove | Shepherd | King |
Sheep | Angels | Joseph | Donkey |
Cows | Camel | Mary | Star |
YEAR 3 MULTIPLICATION WORKSHOP
Next week we have the multiplication workshop for Year 3 Parents and pupils. The workshop is on Wednesday 27th November at 10 am to enable parents to attend the Year 3 Mass at Church first that begins at 9.15am.
We talked about the new assessment in Year 4, the different ways we are teaching multiplication in school now and also learnt some patterns that make learning and remembering your times tables easier.
Parents and children will have the opportunity to move around 5 different stations that include:
PARENT ACADEMY REPRESENTATIVE:
We are seeking nominations for an enthusiastic and committed parent or carer to join the academy committee.
PLEASE SEND IN YOUR NOMINATION BY 26TH NOVEMBER.
If you require another letter then please see the school office.
CURRICULUM:
READING:
Mr Pitt's favourite book: 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl.
Roald Dahl was my favourite author when I was a child. I loved the range of brilliant characters and how Quentin Blake brought these characters to life with his illustrations.
Charlie, the main character, is a young boy from a poor family who grabs the opportunity to visit Mr Wonka’s magical chocolate factory.
I was fascinated with the chocolate factory and how it was described throughout the book. Roald Dahl goes into great detail on how each room looked, smelt and even tasted. I was also a big fan of the original film but those fond memories as a child of exploring the chocolate factory through Dahl’s writing will always pip any film for me.
LIBRARY:
Key Stage Two have been busy borrowing books from our library and it has been lovely to see the children reading our brand new books. It will be Key Stage One's turn next week.
CROSS COUNTRY UPDATE:
On Friday 15th November 27 Year 5 and Year 6 children went to Stourport Memorial Park for the annual WFSSP Cross Country Competition.
There were up to 200 children in each race, and the children made Miss Ballard proud. The children’s behaviour was exemplary, and considering we do not have a school field or anywhere appropriate to practice, the children’s running technique and skill was fantastic!
Out of the 11 ‘small schools’ in attendance our team came 2nd overall!
A big well done to everyone who was involved, and thanks again to all the parents who provided lifts and came to support; it would not be possible to attend without you!
SCHOOL PLACES:
We have places available in Years Reception, 1, 3, 4, 5 & 6. If you know of anyone who would be interested, please refer them to the School Office in the first instance.
