DATE: Monday 21st September 2020

Good afternoon,

A NEW WEEK:

As we start a new week back since the reopening of Saint Ambrose following the summer holidays, I must once again thank you for the lovely comments that we have received. It is always great to hear such kind words of encouragement. We understand that this is a difficult time for all and a time that none of us have ever experienced. For parents, it is a worrying time, full of uncertainty and change. However, we know the best place for your children is in school, and as a school, we have adapted significantly in order to try to ensure that the school remains open. Please rest assured that we will continue to do the best that we can during these challenging times, to ensure that the safety of the children and the staff remains at the forefront of all of our decisions. I thank you once again for your flexibility and support as we adapt to these everchanging times.

RECEPTION CHILDREN:

Reception were busy last week settling into school life. We read the book 'The Colour Monster' and talked about our different feelings.

The weather has been beautiful so the children have been making the most of our wonderful outdoor area. Last week we focused on road safety. The children rode the bikes around our track with some children taking on the role as pedestrians and crossing the road at the zebra crossings.

We started Phonics lessons last week. We are learning a sound a day and how to write it in our cursive handwriting. A powerpoint will be emailed to Reception parents this week with information for supporting the teaching of Phonics at home. All children were given their Fred Card packs this week so keep practising Fred Card 1 at home.

Last week, we learnt about the number 2 in Maths. We made repeated patterns using two different colours and watched the numberblock two episode.

Well done to all the children for coming into school so well this week.

KEEP IN TOUCH WITH STAFF:

As we are unable to hold face to face meetings between teacher and parents we have set up year group email addresses for you to communicate with staff. Please note that emails received after 6pm will be answered the next working day and none over the weekend.

CONFIRMATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:

HOLY COMMUNION:

Please see the letter below regarding your son/daughter's First Holy Communion. For information on Mass times please click on St Ambrose Church link to take you to their website. Please call Father Lamb to book an appointment for your child to make their First Confession.

HANDS, FACE, SPACE CAMPAIGN:

A new public information campaign has been launched ahead of winter to highlight how everyone can help to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

On Wednesday the Prime Minister launched the ‘Hands, Face, Space’ campaign urging the public to continue to wash their hands, cover their face and make space to control infection rates and avoid a second peak.

Please take time to familiarise yourself with the campaign by clicking on the underlined text above.

FACE COVERINGS:

In line with Government guidance, can we please ask that from Monday you wear a face covering when coming into the school reception area. Thank you for your continued support.

Thank you to everyone who has already completed and returned their menu choices for this half term. We are currently providing a packed lunch menu and kindly ask that if you would like your child to receive a packed lunch to complete their sandwich filling choice and return to the school as soon as possible. (You will find the menu choices below.)

Meals cost £2.30 per day unless your child is in receipt of Free School Meals or they are in KS1 (Reception, Y1 and Y2) where they will receive Universal Free School Meals.

If we do not receive notification of your packed lunch choice for your child we will presume that you are sending them with a lunch from home.

Please see the pdf booklet below with the parenting group offers for parents and families from the Starting Well Service.

MASS:

Father Lamb will be saying Mass in school on Wednesday for our Year 5 children.

CAR PARK:

Thank you to everyone for not using the school car park to drop off and pick up children, this has really enabled us to keep everyone safe. Only parents who have a car park pass will be permitted to use the school car park when it is safe to do so.

ALLERGY AWARENESS:

Please remember that we have children in school who suffer from a severe allergy to all nuts and products containing nuts. Children with this condition may have a serious reaction, which could prove fatal if they come into contact with nuts. Consequently, I would ask that no nuts or related products (e.g. Kinder Bueno, Nutella spreads, peanut butter etc.) are brought into school for your child’s break or packed lunch. Your agreement with this and compliance could prevent a life threatening situation from developing. I am sure you will appreciate the reasons for making this request and trust that you will give it your full co-operation.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

If you still need to purchase uniform for your son or daughter please see the PDF document below. You can print, complete and return the form to Hagley Sports or follow the link to access their website.

Kind regards,

Mrs Brocklesby.
