DATE: Friday 10th July

Good afternoon,

I am delighted this week to confirm I am currently preparing plans to fully open Saint Ambrose School to all pupils on Thursday 3rd September. On Wednesday 15th July I will share our plan and all the information you will require to prepare your son or daughter for September. It will be wonderful to have all our children back in school.

Normally we would now be preparing for our end of term Mass and I am pleased to confirm that Father will be saying Mass for our whole school community on Wednesday at 11.15 am from our prayer room. The Mass will be livestreamed and you can access it with the following link https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7lGPq2mgCiWgeyxilx4R0A/videos?view=2

MASS:

Mass will continue to be offered in church every morning at 10 o'clock and on Sunday it will be live streamed from our Prayer Room at 3 o'clock and at 11 o'clock on the school playground. If you would like to attend the 11 o'clock Mass please bring your own chairs and contact the Presbytery on 01562 822839 if you will be attending any week day Mass.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

CONFIRMATION:

Confirmation this year for our Year 6 children will be on Saint Ambrose's Feast Day, 7th December at 7pm in Church. The children will be confirmed by Bishop Elect Evans and we will contact families regarding how to enrol your son or daughter on the programme early in the Autumn Term.

FUNDRAISING FOR THE NHS:

We would like to say a huge well done and congratulations to all of the pupils in 'Love' Bubble who took part in the sponsored run this week. As a group the pupils successfully completed our target of running around the playground 100 times. Thank you for all of your donations so far.

We are very proud of the pupils who are running a stall to raise money for the NHS this weekend at their home. We have been busy this week making bookmarks and pictures to sell at the stall. Parents of children in the 'Love' Bubble who wish to attend have been invited via a push notification. Please check this information on our school life app. If you would like to support the children but you are unable to attend donations are still welcome in a sealed envelope marked 'NHS Sponsorship' to the school office.

TRANSITION:

This week it has been wonderful to start the transition process for our children into their new year groups knowing we will all be back in September. I hope children who will be in years 1 and 2 have accessed their powerpoint or video to prepare them for their new year group. The video and powerpoint can be found on the transition page of our website.

Children who will be in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in a zoom call with their present teacher and their new teacher. The teachers have all said they enjoyed seeing everyone virtually and can't wait to see everyone in person in September.

STAFFING 2020-2021:

Mrs McCormack who is a valued member of school community, sadly will be leaving us at the end of term to teach mathematics at Blessed Edward Olcorne in Worcester. I know you will all want to wish her luck and and thank her for her support and commitment in teaching our children. I am hoping that in the Autumn term we will be able to invite Mrs McCormack back, to thank her properly.

Year 2 Miss Crumpler Mrs Lloyd, Mrs Tew

If you haven't done already, please go to 'Transition' under the News section of the school website to view the letter from your child's class teacher in September and share the video below. The video will prepare your son or daughter for the necessary changes we have made to school.

YEAR 6 LEAVERS MASS:

After much deliberation we have decided to postpone the Y6 Mass. We recognise that this is a special event and we would like it to be a celebration of the children's time here at St Ambrose. As it stands we feel this wouldn't be achievable at the moment. We will hold the Mass on Saturday 5th September at 12 o'clock, which will be followed by a celebration for the children and their families. Please contact us should you require further clarification.

YEAR 6'S LAST DAY:

Thursday 16th July will be our Year 6’s last day with us and we are busy planning how to make this day as memorable as possible. Year 6 are welcome to wear their own clothes on this day and Mr Garvey will be making an appearance to help us with some activities.

Should they wish to do so, we will be giving the children the opportunity to ‘leave’ their school uniform that they no longer require on their tables before they go as a rite of passage for High School. This is not necessary if they have younger siblings.

HOLIDAY CAMPS:

Can we please remind you to complete the survey below in order for us to ascertain whether it would be feasible for us to work alongside Fit for Sport to provide fun and active provision for your son/daughter during the summer break.

I am looking into organising summer activity camps at St Ambrose and I now need to determine the demand.

Please complete the survey by no later than Friday 10th July and I will then inform you on Monday 13th July if we will be able to run an activity camp.

RARING 2 GO LEAFLET:

Please click on the link below to access a digital version of the 'Raring 2 Go' booklet.

As venues start opening up, the magazine will be a source of up-to-date information on what's available for families (it is linked directly to the Raring2go! online What's On calendar, so it will be kept up to date with any new events and changes made as they occur).

This issue is filled with lots of ideas for families to have fun close to home, as I know many will feel more comfortable with that at the moment. Ideas include den building, craft, healthy picnic ideas, and even a sports day in the garden! But there are also details of venues/attractions that are now open - and need our support.

With a lot of holidays cancelled, parents/carers will be looking for fun activities to fill the summer break, so I hope yous find this a useful resource.

CARPET MUSEUM:

Please find below some information about what the Museum of Carpet has to offer this summer.

This summer the Museum of Carpet invites you to the Stour Vale Mill for a day of free family fun. The Museum has two weaving sheds, and four galleries decked out with modern interactives, stunning photographs and immersive videos. You can try your hand at designing, weaving or exploring Kidderminster’s history, virtually, on our clever interactives. Children of all ages are welcome to take on our museum trail, hunting Walter the Weaver around the galleries, before taking the fun home with them, with one of the museum’s new activity packs available in our gift shop. Throughout July and August 2020 the museum is offering free entry to all visitors, as a thank you for all their kind donations on crowdfunding. Secure tickets in advance on our new online booking system at www.museumofcarpet.org/book-here-2/. The vibrant textiles on display and charismatic volunteers, leading live demonstrations, are sure to excite and engage both, big kids at heart and little ones.

THIS WEEK IN YEAR 6:

This week our Year 6 bubbles have been learning about the circulatory system and digestive system in science lessons. Our Hope bubble enjoyed learning about how to keep healthy by ensuring they eat the right foods and have plenty of exercise and they produced lovely information posters. Our Peace bubble enjoyed a movie afternoon watching 'Holes and were impressed at the similarities with the book while our Faith bubble enjoyed watching 'Coco' and sampling Amelie's homemade guacamole, which was delicious!
