THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

NSPCC

YEAR ONE'S TRIP TO HARTLEBURY MUSEUM

Year One had a fantastic day taking a step back in time. We went back to Victorian times and even dressed the part. The children went to Victorian School for the morning. They lined up outside in boys and girls lines and were told to walk in and stand by their desk. We did Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. It was then time for a Victorian playtime where we used hoops, stilts, cup and ball and yo-yos. After lunch we explored the whole museum and went down to visit the Scullery and the Laundry room.

YEAR 4 - AUTHOR ZOOM SESSION

Authors Aloud with Professor Ben Garrod!

We had an online Zoom session led by Professor Ben Garrod, who talked about his Extinct – The Story of Life on Earth series and taught us all about extinction!

I enjoyed learning about gibbons and the megladons because it was fun learning about them (Charlie)

I enjoyed finding out about extinct animals that I didn’t even know used to exist (Noah)

I enjoyed learning all about extinction because it was interesting to find out all the different ways extinction can occur (Katie)

Assessments-Year 4 Multiplication test

Under the current National Curriculum, children are required to know their times tables by the end of Year 4, but until now they have not been formally tested on them other than through multiplication questions in the Year 6 maths SATs. In June, Year 4 will be tested using an on-screen check (on a computer or a tablet), to answer multiplication questions. This highlights the importance of playing multiplication games with your son or daughter regularly from a young age.

NSPCC ASSEMBLY

Just a reminder that this week all pupils took part in an NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. online programme. This consisted of an online assembly and supporting classroom based activities. Speak out. Stay safe. is a safeguarding programme available to all primary schools in the UK. It aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse in a child friendly way. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or Childline. Please see the letter below for further details.

LIVE STREAM

Can we please remind you to complete and return the live stream consent form that came home with your child last week.

PRAYER MINISTRY

Mathew Morgan who leads the intercessory prayer network at Saint Ambrose has provided parishioners the opportunity to leave prayer intentions for the network to pray for throughout the week. Matthew would like to extend this opportunity to our school community and invites anyone to email prayer intentions to stambroseintercessors@gmail.com

SHOUT OUT

The things that are achieved by the children at our school are incredible.  Members of our school represent numerous sports teams and clubs outside of school, as well as representing the school with great pride at various competitions.

This week I have heard:

"Miss you should be so proud of your pupils they have amazing ideas."

David Graffiti Artist

Well done, please email Mrs Brocklesby ebrocklesby@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk any achievements you would like us to share.

SUMMER FETE Friday July 8th from 3.15pm

Before COVID our Summer Fete was a huge success and not only was it lots of fun but we raised a fantastic amount of money for the school! We are already planning ahead, have set the date and are looking forward to organising this year’s fete to be just as much fun, if not better!

ATTENDANCE

At Saint Ambrose everyone recognises regular school attendance is an important part of giving children the best possible start in life. To ensure all our children get the best start in life, we will contact you and support you if we feel your son or daughter's attendance is below an acceptable level.

Year Group Weekly Attendance Termly Attendance
Whole School 95.7% 92.8%

Thank you to everyone for remembering the school gates open at 8.45 am and close at 9.00 am as we now no longer have a staggered start. If anyone arrives after 9.00 am they will need to come into school via the main office. Arriving before 9.00 am ensures no learning time is lost-thank you for your support.

CRICKET ACTIVITIES

Please see the flyer below with details about All Stars and Dynamos programmes which are taking place at Kidderminster Cricket Club from May 20th to July 8th, which I’m sure will be of interest to some of our pupils.

The programmes help enhance skills in catching, throwing and batting as well as developing confidence, concentration, team work, self-discipline and friendships - as well as, hopefully, a love of cricket, and for the girls, especially, an understanding that they can play what was traditionally a male-dominated sport, they can enjoy it and play well.

If you require any more details about the programmes or Kidderminster Cricket Club, please call me, or visit kidderminster.play-cricket.com

PARISH SURVEY

The Church is currently following a directive from Pope Francis to focus on reflection and sharing of the whole church. Pope Francis states,

"By walking together, and together reflecting on the journey made, the Church will be
able to learn from what it will experience which processes can help it to live
communion, to achieve participation, to open itself to mission."

At Saint Ambrose we aim to enable families to experience the wide parish Community and for us to reflect and learn please complete the survey, see link below. The results will be shared with the parish to enable us to grow and learn together.

PLEASE EMAIL ebrocklesby@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk if your son (years 4-6) would like to train as an altar server or your son or daughter (years 3-6) would like to read at Parish Masses.
