THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

OUR CURRICULUM

At Saint Ambrose we have implemented a curriculum that aims to provide all pupils with awe and wonder, knowledge, memorable experiences and challenge. Over the next few weeks all pupils will be working with a graffiti artist to create symbols to represent our intent of awe and wonder, knowledge, memorable experiences and challenge. The artist will also work with each class to create a piece of graffiti on our playground wall. During the summer term we will be asking parents to support us with our curriculum development to ensure children are being taught the lifelong learning skills to know more, remember more and do more.

WEAR SOMETHING BLUE

We will be celebrating St. Nicholas Owen's feast day on Tuesday 22nd March and would like to invite all children to wear something blue alongside their school uniform.

ONLINE SAFETY

This week I have been made aware of  a great resource for parents linked to online safety. Please visit the website below.

The website has advice for you whatever the age of your child. The resources can help you to find out more about what children might be doing online and give you practical advice on the steps you can take as a parent to keep them safe in their digital world.

STARS OF THE WEEK

On Monday morning, we will be celebrating children from each class who have followed our Catholic Mission: 'we do our best by following Jesus' in our Celebration assembly. The children receiving a certificate are:

Year Group Curriculum Award Discipleship Award
Reception Yonghao Alexander
Year 1 N/A Whole Class for their wonderful assembly last week
Year 2 Aurelia Olly
Year 3 Lydia Robyn M
Year 4 Katie James
Year 5 Charlie Emily
Year 6 Demi-Leigh FFion

YEAR ONE WILL NOT BE ATTENDING CELEBRATION ASSMEBLY IN THE HALL, INSTEAD THEY WILL CELBRATE IT IN CLASS.

On Monday 28th March we will again be inviting parents to attend the celebration assembly at 9:10 am. If your son or daughter is receiving an award, notifications will be sent out via a push notification and email from the school office on Thursday 24th March.

ATTENDANCE

At Saint Ambrose everyone recognises regular school attendance is an important part of giving children the best possible start in life. To ensure all our children get the best start in life, we will contact you and support you if we feel your son or daughter's attendance is below an acceptable level.

Year Group Weekly Attendance Termly Attendance
Whole School 84.5% 92.5%
Reception 93.2% 90.5%
Year 1 40.6% 89.7%
Year 2 94.2% 93.5%
Year 3 86.0% 94.6%
Year 4 88.6% 94.5%
Year 5 93.7% 91.4%
Year 6 99.3% 92.4%

Attendance will be celebrated weekly in our Gospel Assembly on a Friday and the winning class will be able to select a treat from a list devised by the school Ambassadors.

Thank you to everyone for remembering the school gates open at 8.45 am and close at 9.00 am as we now no longer have a staggered start. If anyone arrives after 9.00 am they will need to come into school via the main office. Arriving before 9.00 am ensures no learning time is lost-thank you for your support. Today 97% of our school has received a Saint Ambrose bee rubber for arriving on time. Next week each class will have on one day a surprise delivery of toast for children who are in school between 8.45 am and 9 am. This will be very exciting for the children as they will not be told what day toast will be delivered. It would be great if everyone gets this treat.

READATHON - Lenten Charity Work

For our charitable work this Lent, our House Captains have decided they would like to run a Readathon and would like all pupils to take part. They would like to raise money for the charity Read for Good which provides new books for children who are in hospital.

Please support your child’s sponsored readathon by helping them record all they have read on the Go Read app.

Should you wish to sponsor your child, you can do so by visiting the following website: https://readathon.secure.force.com/sponsor  and family and friends can use it too.

Please ensure all sponsorship money is donated by Monday 4th April.

For more information, check out your child’s sponsorship card and visit www.readforgood.org.

Thank you for your support.

BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK

This week St Ambrose have been celebrating Science Week. On Monday Miss Crumpler led a whole school assembly. We were introduced to the theme of growth science week 2022, we watched an experiment and we were inspired by the works of female scientists.
Throughout the week every class watched a live science lesson. Each class also completed their own science activity.

Year 2 really enjoyed watching the live lesson about minibeasts. We also learnt about and acted out the life cycle of the butterfly. Then we made our own life cycles. In our writing lessons, Year 2 have been writing explanations about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Year 1

LIFE SKILLS

Our theme for this term is 'being creative and using the outdoors'.

Year One became Paddington Bear and they had to write a letter to Aunt Lucy. The letters were put into envelopes. Then we put the addresses on the envelopes and attached a stamp. Finally we walked to the post office to post our letters. T

Year 2 have had lots of fun this week learning the life skill of skipping.

In Year 5, our life skill was photography. We enjoyed experimenting with different depths of field and editing our images.

YEAR 5 & 6 ATHLETICS

An athletics team from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in a 17-team athletics tournament. The children took part in both track and field events including an obstacle course and a range of high jumps. As a school we picked up plenty of 1st 2nd and 3rd places.  Well done to St Ambrose for an excellent athletics outing!

YEAR 4 HOCKEY

Today we took a Year 4 team to a Quicksticks Hockey Competition at Stourport.

This is what Fia-Bella has to say:

Today was a really fun day, even though we didn't win any games.  We won the Values award in our league, because we were all polite, we tried our best and we didn't give up!  Now we're waiting to find out if we won the WFSSP Values award out of all 26 teams!

UKRAINE APPEAL

Thank you to everyone for making a donation to raise money for the Ukraine Appeal. It is wonderful to see everyone wearing yellow and blue ribbons to stand together in support of peace. I would like to thank Charlie, Katie and friends for selling ribbons  and living out our school mission to do our best by following Jesus. It is fantastic to see our pupils develop as global citizens respecting the culture of others by making positive contributions to their community.

ST PATRICK'S DAY

Yesterday it was wonderful to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day by wearing green and make a donation to support the Ukraine Appeal. Yesterday  the children learnt lots of fun facts including:

Saint Patrick  is the patron saint of Ireland, and a day of cultural and religious celebration for Irish people.

It is celebrated on March 17 all over Ireland and everywhere in the world where Irish people live.

Green is the color that is associated with Saint Patrick's Day as it is the national colour of Ireland. People often wear green on that day or have some type of shamrock on their clothing.

A tradition of the day is to pinch those who are not wearing green.

The first St. Patrick's Day parade in Ireland was held in Waterford in 1903. New York City has a large parade on Saint Patrick's Day

CRICKET ACTIVITIES

Please see the flyer below with details about All Stars and Dynamos programmes which are taking place at Kidderminster Cricket Club from May 20th to July 8th, which I’m sure will be of interest to some of our pupils.

The programmes help enhance skills in catching, throwing and batting as well as developing confidence, concentration, team work, self-discipline and friendships - as well as, hopefully, a love of cricket, and for the girls, especially, an understanding that they can play what was traditionally a male-dominated sport, they can enjoy it and play well.

If you require any more details about the programmes or Kidderminster Cricket Club, please call me, or visit kidderminster.play-cricket.com

PARISH SURVEY

The Church is currently following a directive from Pope Francis to focus on reflection and sharing of the whole church. Pope Francis states,

"By walking together, and together reflecting on the journey made, the Church will be
able to learn from what it will experience which processes can help it to live
communion, to achieve participation, to open itself to mission."

At Saint Ambrose we aim to enable families to experience the wide parish Community and for us to reflect and learn please complete the survey, see link below. The results will be shared with the parish to enable us to grow and learn together.

PLEASE EMAIL ebrocklesby@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk if your son (years 4-6) would like to train as an altar server or your son or daughter (years 3-6) would like to read at Parish Masses.
