DATE: Friday 2nd October 2020
Good afternoon,
It was lovely today to celebrate Harvest with a virtual Service led by Father Lamb. Thank you for all the tins of food. They will be donated to the Kidderminster Foodbank.
Congratulations to all the children who will be celebrating their First Holy Communion tomorrow at Saint Ambrose Church at 12 o'clock.
Please continue to pray for the children and their families.
I would like to thank Miss Ballard and Miss Holtom who have been involved in leading and running the First Holy Communion program.
On Monday in school each child will release a balloon carrying a message of peace and have an opportunity to celebrate making their First Holy Communion.
Below is a very reflective prayer written by Cian in Year 4 who will be making his First Holy Communion tomorrow.
Dear Holy Lord,
We are your sheep, you are the shepherd. You save us from the devil and forgive us when we sin. You love us no matter what.
You are a planet.
You are a king.
Dear God i love you and I know you love us too.
You teach us not to sin.
Thank you Lord for everything. You are everywhere.
Amen.
We will be using microsoft Teams to meet and discuss progress on the identified dates below. The main reason for using Teams, is to ensure if we do have a local lockdown we are prepared and will be able to continue to teach children virtually. The parents appointments will be test sessions to ensure we are all able to meet virtually. We have chosen to use Teams because it is an App that can be downloaded on a smartphone, tablet or computer (details below explaining how to download Teams). I would now like to ask you all to download the Teams app on to your device. Next week every child will receive their school sign in email and password ready for the meetings. The meeting dates and times are detailed in the table below and appointments can be booked on the school website.
If you experience any technical difficulties logging into Teams please email our IT department support@stnicholasowen-mac.org.uk

This year, we would like to support the shoebox appeal to support deprived children and vulnerable families this Christmas. Today, your child will have come home with a leaflet or a how to pack a shoebox information sheet which details of how to pack a shoebox. If you would like to support this worthy cause we ask for packed shoeboxes to be returned to school by Friday 13th November.
This academic year, Relationships Education and Health Education will become statutory in all primary schools in England. As a Catholic school, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. After careful consideration, we have decided to adopt Life to the Full by Ten Ten resources to help us deliver this area of curriculum. However, it is essential that as part of implementing Life to the Full, we consult with our children, parents, staff and academy committee members to ensure there is a general consensus on our approaches to policy and curriculum content.
At St Ambrose, as part of our consultation process, we would like to have your feedback on our approach, and particularly on the key decisions that we need to take regarding the teaching of certain topics. Therefore, we kindly ask you to take part in an online Parent Consultation Tool to help us make key decisions.
Please access the first access a short online course on: www.tentenresources.co.uk/parent-consultation-primary which provides details about the resources and answers some frequently asked questions.
You will need to log in with the username: st-ambrose-dy10 and the password: custard-111.
Once you have completed the course, please then complete our questionnaire, through the link on our RSE Parent Consultation page and send us your feedback by 16th October.
We appreciate your time and support with this. A teapot time will be arranged for later in the term to answer any further questions and to make key decisions.
Applications for Reception Class 2021 have now opened and must be completed online by 15 January 2021. We welcome applications from all families of all or no faith. If you know of any families who are presently applying for a school place please encourage them to contact school. Again, if you have any queries regarding applying please do not hesitate to speak to us.
If your son or daughter is in Year Six please see the flyer below advertising the Open Morning at Hagley Catholic High Scool on Saturday 10th October.
Confirmation this year for our Year 6 children will be on Saint Ambrose's Feast Day, 7th December at 7pm in Church. The Year 6 children have received a letter from Father Lamb explaining how to enrol on the Confirmation programme. The application can be downloaded using the link below.
In line with Government guidance, can we please ask that from Monday you wear a face covering when coming into the school reception area. Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you to everyone who has already completed and returned their menu choices for this half term. We are currently providing a packed lunch menu and kindly ask that if you would like your child to receive a packed lunch to complete their sandwich filling choice and return to the school as soon as possible. (You will find the menu choices below.)
Meals cost £2.30 per day unless your child is in receipt of Free School Meals or they are in KS1 (Reception, Y1 and Y2) where they will receive Universal Free School Meals.
If we do not receive notification of your packed lunch choice for your child we will presume that you are sending them with a lunch from home.

Due to the parish hall still being closed, Teapot Time will take place at school. If you would like to attend, the next session will be on Tuesday 6th October at 9am. Entrance will be via the side gate next to pre-school.
Father Lamb will be saying Mass in school on Wednesday for our Year 4 children.
Thank you to everyone for not using the school car park to drop off and pick up children, this has really enabled us to keep everyone safe. Only parents who have a car park pass will be permitted to use the school car park when it is safe to do so.
Please remember that we have children in school who suffer from a severe allergy to all nuts and products containing nuts. Children with this condition may have a serious reaction, which could prove fatal if they come into contact with nuts. Consequently, I would ask that no nuts or related products (e.g. Kinder Bueno, Nutella spreads, peanut butter etc.) are brought into school for your child’s break or packed lunch. Your agreement with this and compliance could prevent a life threatening situation from developing. I am sure you will appreciate the reasons for making this request and trust that you will give it your full co-operation.
If you still need to purchase uniform for your son or daughter please see the PDF document below. You can print, complete and return the form to Hagley Sports or follow the link to access their website.
Kind regards,
Mrs Brocklesby.
