DATE: 5th September 2020

Good afternoon,

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

WELCOME BACK:

It is wonderful to have the children and staff together again in the school after such a long time. We missed you all so much.

The beginning of term is a time of change as the children and staff settle back into the routines of a new school. This year given the current global health crisis and the lengthy school closure since March, children have adapted so well and staff are very proud of them.

There have been a lot of necessary changes to the school to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the staff and children. We hope you have found the information about the new procedures helpful and that it made the first few days of term as straight forward as possible for you and your family.

We are continually reviewing and updating our procedures and risk assessments and will keep you informed of any changes.

The changes we have made so far our:

Years 1 and 2 children to be collected from the playgroud at 2.45pm

Years 3 and 4 children to be collected from the playground at 3pm

Years 5 and 6 children to be collected from the playground at 3.10pm

Children can bring one bag to school with their lunch and water bottle inside.

A lunch box can be used to store lunch but please note the lunchbox will not be washed at school.

Please remember that if you have more than one child attending school to bring all your children in for the first time slot you have been allocated. You may also collect your children at the same time - ideally at the latest time slot to maximise their learning in school.

One big change is that when you arrive at school, please enter on foot via the school car park gate and queue along the pathway using the 2m marked out spots. You will then be required to exit school via St Ambrose Church pathway. During this period only one adult is permitted to drop off and pick up on each occasion - please keep younger children with you at all times e.g. holding their hand. Children will be greeted at the front door or the gate by an adult and directed to their classroom where they will then be met by adults in their bubble.

If you need any assistance with drop off or pick up times we are here to help, please call school to make arrangements. Thank you for your support and partnership.

FACE COVERINGS:

In line with Government guidance, can we please ask that from Monday you wear a face covering when coming into the school reception area. Thank you for your continued support.

Thank you to everyone who has already completed and returned their menu choices for the this half term. We are currently providing a packed lunch menu and kindly ask that if you would like your child to receive a packed lunch to complete their sandwich filling choice and return to the school as soon as possible. (You will find the menu choices below.)

Meals cost £2.30 per day unless your child is in receipt of Free School Meals or they are in KS1 (Reception, Y1 and Y2) where they will receive Universal Free School Meals.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENTS:

Over the summer contractors have been very busy in school and we are very proud of our new play equipment for our Reception and Key Stage 1 children (see photographs above). We also now have a fantastic medical room, additional toilets, newly painted corridors and some inspirational display boards to motivate and inspire our pupils.

STAFFING UPDATE:

We welcome two new teachers to Saint Ambrose this term: Mrs Goodsir and Mrs Moorish. Mrs Goodsir is our Year 4 teacher and Mrs Moorish will be teaching in Year 6 and teaching French to all Key Stage 2 classes.

TEAPOT TIME:

Due to the parish hall still being closed, Teapot Time will take place at school under the canopy of the nurture classroom for the time being. If you would like to attend, the next session will be on Tuesday 8th September at 9am. Entrance will be via the side gate next to pre-school.

MASS:

Father Lamb will be saying Mass in school on Wednesday for our children to celebrate the new school year. The children will access the Mass virtually from their class bubbles.

CAR PARK:

Thank you to everyone for not using the school car park to drop off and pick up children, this has really enabled us to keep everyone safe. Only parents who have a car park pass will be permitted to use the school car park when it is safe to do so.

ALLERGY AWARENESS:

Please remember that we have children in school who suffer from a severe allergy to all nuts and products containing nuts. Children with this condition may have a serious reaction, which could prove fatal if they come into contact with nuts. Consequently, I would ask that no nuts or related products (e.g. Kinder Bueno, Nutella spreads, peanut butter etc.) are brought into school for your child’s break or packed lunch. Your agreement with this and compliance could prevent a life threatening situation from developing. I am sure you will appreciate the reasons for making this request and trust that you will give it your full co-operation.

CONFIRMATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:

Confirmation this year for our Year 6 children will be on Saint Ambrose's Feast Day, 7th December at 7pm in Church and First Holy Communion will be on Saturday 3rd October for our Year 4 pupils. We will contact families regarding how to enrol your son or daughter on the programmes next week.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

If you still need to purchase uniform for your son or daughter please see the PDF document below. You can print, complete and return the form to Hagley Sports or follow the link to access their website.

Kind regards,

Mrs Brocklesby.
