THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A BUSY WEEK

This week we have welcomed a number of guests into school to enrich our curriculum. The guests were Mr. Mallison and the Hagley Mass band, David Brown a graffiti artist, Mike Jones, Ann Mulders, from HSBC and Craig Leonard. Mike has worked with children from years 1-6 on internet safety, Ann ran workshops on gaming with years 5 and 6 and Craig has delivered history talks to years 6, 4 and 2. The photographs below show some of the great activities that the children took part in this week.

OUTDOOR GYM

This week we have been very excited to have an outdoor gym installed!  Year 4 had fun trying out the new equipment, and it will be exciting for the children to enjoy the new gym equipment after half term!

They have also been enjoying learning new skills in art this half term!

Assessments-Year 4 Multiplication test

Under the current National Curriculum, children are required to know their times tables by the end of Year 4, but until now they have not been formally tested on them other than through multiplication questions in the Year 6 maths SATs. In June, Year 4 will be tested using an on-screen check (on a computer or a tablet), to answer multiplication questions. This highlights the importance of playing multiplication games with your son or daughter regularly from a young age.

Mathew Morgan who leads the intercessory prayer network at Saint Ambrose has provided parishioners the opportunity to leave prayer intentions for the network to pray for throughout the week. Matthew would like to extend this opportunity to our school community and invites anyone to email prayer intentions to stambroseintercessors@gmail.com

SHOUT OUT

The things that are achieved by the children at our school are incredible.  Members of our school represent numerous sports teams and clubs outside of school, as well as representing the school with great pride at various competitions.

This week I have heard:

Katie in Year 6 won a medal in her Judo competition! Well done!

'Have had a great day with the Year 5's and Year 6's today. They were really engaged and interacted really well. It was a pleasure to be in the school' - Ann from HSBC.

Well done, please email Mrs Brocklesby ebrocklesby@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk any achievements you would like us to share.

SUMMER FETE Friday July 8th from 3.15pm

ATTENDANCE

Before COVID our Summer Fete was a huge success and not only was it lots of fun but we raised a fantastic amount of money for the school! We are already planning ahead, have set the date and are looking forward to organising this year’s fete to be just as much fun, if not better!

At Saint Ambrose everyone recognises regular school attendance is an important part of giving children the best possible start in life. To ensure all our children get the best start in life, we will contact you and support you if we feel your son or daughter's attendance is below an acceptable level.

Year Group Weekly Attendance Termly Attendance
Whole School 92.3% 92.8%
Reception 85.6% 90.9%
Year 1 92.7% 90.3%
Year 2 90.0% 94.2%

Year 5 86.3% 91.7%
Year 6 100% 93.5%

Attendance will be celebrated weekly in our Gospel Assembly on a Friday and the winning class will be able to select a treat from a list devised by the school Ambassadors.

Thank you to everyone for remembering the school gates open at 8.45 am and close at 9.00 am as we now no longer have a staggered start. If anyone arrives after 9.00 am they will need to come into school via the main office. Arriving before 9.00 am ensures no learning time is lost-thank you for your support.

CRICKET ACTIVITIES

Please see the flyer below with details about All Stars and Dynamos programmes which are taking place at Kidderminster Cricket Club from May 20th to July 8th, which I’m sure will be of interest to some of our pupils.

The programmes help enhance skills in catching, throwing and batting as well as developing confidence, concentration, team work, self-discipline and friendships - as well as, hopefully, a love of cricket, and for the girls, especially, an understanding that they can play what was traditionally a male-dominated sport, they can enjoy it and play well.

If you require any more details about the programmes or Kidderminster Cricket Club, please call me, or visit kidderminster.play-cricket.com

PARISH SURVEY

The Church is currently following a directive from Pope Francis to focus on reflection and sharing of the whole church. Pope Francis states,

"By walking together, and together reflecting on the journey made, the Church will be
able to learn from what it will experience which processes can help it to live
communion, to achieve participation, to open itself to mission."

At Saint Ambrose we aim to enable families to experience the wide parish Community and for us to reflect and learn please complete the survey, see link below. The results will be shared with the parish to enable us to grow and learn together.

PLEASE EMAIL ebrocklesby@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk if your son (years 4-6) would like to train as an altar server or your son or daughter (years 3-6) would like to read at Parish Masses.
