DATE: Friday 10th December 2021

It will be wonderful to come together next week to prepare for the birth of Jesus with our Christmas celebrations in Church. This year each class will celebrate and we request masks are worn and only two adults (and any siblings) attend for each child. This will enable us to carry on with the celebrations.

Please see the dates and times below for each year groups performance.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

ST AMBROSE'S FEAST DAY

Tuesday was a very important day for us because it was the feast day of our patron saint: Saint Ambrose. Year 5 attended Mass in Church and all other year groups celebrated virtually. It was wonderful seeing so many of us dressed in yellow and black (the colour of bees) to remind ourselves that when our patron was an infant, a swarm of bees settled in his mouth, said to be sign he would become a great orator and his later teaching was reported to 'sound as sweet as honey'. We had a great day doing different activities to celebrate this important day.

CONFIRMATION

We are very proud of our Year 6 pupils who worked so hard with Miss Holtom and Miss Noble to prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. On Thursday, it was a wonderful occasion to witness them renew their baptismal promises and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their commitment to the church will continue to grow, so that they may be witnesses of God's eternal love throughout the world.

CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY - SANTA DASH

Today, it was our annual Christmas Jumper Day, and this year the children were challenged by Miss Ballard to work together to run a whopping 129 miles, the equivalent distance from here to the London Eye!  That meant each class needed to cover 18.5 miles...

As a school we completed 2,334 laps of the playground, which means we ran 155.6 miles!  So not only did we run far enough to reach the London Eye, we also had miles left over to race around the streets of London!

We completed our Santa Dash Run in order to raise money for Kemp Hospice, who kindly donated every child with a pair of reindeer ears and Rudolph noses!

We have raised £136 so far, so please continue to dig deep and donate to the following Just Giving Page.  Let's see if we can raise over £200 by Monday!

BAMBINELLI BLESSING

Each class created their own baby Jesus this week, and then today we had a blessing service led by Father Lamb.

Take a look at Year 4's lovely Bambinellis.

COLD WEATHER

If the decision is taken to close school, a scrolling banner message will appear on our website homepage. We will also send a push notification via the App and we will Tweet. We will make this decision as early as possible and no later than 7:15am.

We will not close school once children have arrived, however, if during the school day weather conditions deteriorate significantly, we may ask parents to collect their child/children early but only when it is safe and feasible for the parent.

SCHOOL AMBASSADORS

If you have any ideas to improve school meals please email your ideas to ebrocklesby@st-ambrose.worcs.sch.uk.

Next week, school ambassadors will have a meeting together to share feedback from all the classes about school dinners.

ECO COUNCIL

On Thursday 13th January the Eco-Council will be organising a NO ELECTRICITY DAY. We will attempt to save electricity and reduce our carbon footprint 👣 by not using our interactive whiteboards, not putting devices on charge, and making the most of the natural light in our classrooms! The children will have the opportunity for some creative lessons and some outdoor learning too!

Today, four of our eco-warriors completed a bio-diversity and an electricity survey of the school and they will use their findings to plan future projects. So please watch this space.
