PSHE/ Relationship, Sex & Health Education

In 2021, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education became statutory in all primary schools in England.

As a Catholic school, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. The education of children in human sexuality is an important, precious and privileged responsibility. The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, in which parents are the ‘first educators’ of their children on these matters; ultimately, you confer on us the right to co-educate your children with you.

After carefully researching various programmes available, we have adopted 'Life to the Full' by Ten Ten, a resource approved by our diocese. Ten Ten is an award-winning Catholic educational organisation that is well-respected and very experienced in this field of work. Ten Ten understands the foundational role that parents have in educating and nurturing their children on these matters and therefore has built in resources which will not only keep you informed about what is being taught in school, but will also give you the opportunity to engage your children in discussion, activity and prayer.

'Very useful and informative already. Thank you'

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another.

Adaptive Teaching

In PSHE and RSE, adaptive teaching strategies are used to ensure that every pupil can access learning, develop personally, socially and emotionally, and achieve success. Lessons are carefully planned and scaffolded so that all children can work towards the same personal development learning intention at an appropriate level. Pupils with additional needs, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), receive tailored support through high-quality teacher guidance, clear modelling, visual prompts, adapted resources and activities broken down into smaller, manageable steps. Where appropriate, pupils are given additional opportunities to discuss ideas, reflect on their experiences and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make informed, respectful and responsible choices. Our aim is for every child to become a resilient, respectful and compassionate individual who values themselves and others, builds positive relationships and is well prepared for life in modern Britain.
