Date:9th March 2018

Good afternoon everyone,

LENT

During our whole school assembly today we focused on preparing ourselves during the season of Lent. We learnt about the work of 'CAFOD' and how we can work together to build a better world, where no one lives in poverty and each of us can become the best person we can be.

FAMILY MASS SUNDAY 4TH MARCH

It was wonderful to see so many families at the Family Mass at Saint Ambrose Chuch last Sunday. Thank you to the families that attended, the children that read and served refreshments in the Parish Centre

AFTERNOON TEA

Well Done to the seven children who joined Miss Holtom for 'afternoon tea' today.

WORLD BOOK DAY

Due to the cold weather, we celebrated World Book Day today and as always we were so impressed by the costumes.

AUTHOR VISIT

On Thursday KS2 thoroughly enjoyed when 'Billy Bob Buttons' an award-winning author came into classes to work with them. Years 3 and 4 learnt all about creating characters and how we can bring them to life in their writing whilst Year 5 and 6 discovered how to plan interesting plots and found out about the process of getting stories published. 'Billy Bob' also answered all their questions and read parts of his exciting books.

It was so lovely to see so many children buying signed books after school and we hope they enjoy reading them!

WHAT A BUSY WEEK!!

The week started with extremely well attended maths workshops for parents. At the workshops, parents found out how they can support their children at home, followed by an opportunity to visit their son or daughter in their classroom.

Thank you to the Reception parents who attended the phonics workshop on Wednesday. It was wonderful to hear how confident parents now feel to support their child at home.

Thank you to everyone who completed the Religious Education Survey at Parent's Evening. If you didn't manage to complete the survey you can access it on the school website by clicking the tab Parent and Carer Religious Education Survey 2018.

PRAYER INTENTIONS

During the month of November, we always have a prayer intention book where families can record the names of deceased loved ones. We are planning to introduce a 'Prayer Intentions' book for other periods in the school year. This will be located in the school reception area and will be available for families to record their prayer intentions, for example: you may wish to offer a prayer for a family member who is ill, a prayer for a significant family celebration or maybe a prayer during a time of worry such as exams. Every Monday morning, when the staff gather at 8:30am for weekly briefing, we will share your intentions and join our prayers with yours.

NEXT WEEK

On the 12th-16th March our Scholastic Book Club will be back in school where children will have the opportunity after school to browse and purchase the different books on offer for their collections at home.

PRAYER SESSIONS

We were delighted that some parents were able to join us for our end of the school day collective worship this week. This is now a regular event and all parents, grandparents etc. are most welcome. This is on a Friday, for children in Years 2 and 4 until Easter.

KS2 FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Miss Ballard, Mrs Joyner and Mr Garvey went with two KS2 football teams to Winterfold for a CTA Football Tournament. It was a fantastic morning, with lots of talented play and great team work. The U9s came 4th (we think!) and the U11s came 5th out of 12 teams!

Well played to everybody, and we are now looking forward to the CTA Netball tournament tomorrow!
