Date: Friday 5th October

Y1 ASSEMBLY:

Today we were joined by lots of proud parents and grandparents as Year 1 entertained us with the first class assembly of the year. Through an extremely polished performance they explained all about Harvest, speaking confidently, acting out the story of the Little Red Hen and singing my favourite song: The Big Red Combine Harvester. Thank you for giving us all something to think about; not to waste food and water, to share our time and what we have with others and to try to help those people less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you to Mrs Leak, Mrs Holder and Mrs Davies for preparing the children so well and thank you parents - it was lovely to see a packed hall.

I reminded the children about their committment during Monday morning's assembly at the start of Little way week: to try to be like St Therese of Lisieux and show a little act of kindness to someone every day. Additionally, they were told about today's CAFOD Family Fast appeal where £7 helps support people in drought affected countries to dig a borehole to find clean water.

BABY UPDATE:

Mrs Brocklesby is pleased to announce that she has named her beautiful baby girl Ava. We are all looking forward to having a cuddle very soon.

ARMISTICE DAY - CASCADE OF POPPIES:

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1, the parish are going to create a cascade of poppies in church. Some of the children are going to attempt to knit poppies to contribute to the display but they need as many poppies as possible. If you would like to take part, the school office can supply you with the knitting pattern. All finished poppies need to be returned to the office by Monday 5th November.

ANIMAL BLESSING SERVICE:

We were well and truly blessed yesterday as the sun shone down on our Animal Blessing Service. It was a wonderful occasion as parents and parishioners joined the children on the playground with their pets. Over 35 animals were blessed including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, African land snails and a baby tortoise. Everyone had a wonderful time; thank you to Father Lamb for giving so generously of his time to conduct the ceremony.

YEAR 4 AND YEAR 5 CROSS COUNTRY:

Congratulations to our fantastic Year 4 and Year 5 children who went to King Charles this morning to run in a cross country event. They represented the school superbly and showed great determination to do well. The top five children will be entered into the next stage of the competition and details will be provided shortly. Special congratulations go to Izzy D and Ollie G who both won second place in their races and Millie C and Luke V who won third place in theirs.

SCHOOL GAMES MARK:

We are delighted to announce that we, St Ambrose Catholic Primary School, have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2017/18 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:

  • Participation in CTA Football, Netball and Athletics Competitions
  • Successful start up of a Change4Life Club
  • A wide variety of after-school sports clubs for KS1 and KS2 pupils
  • Introduction of termly interhouse sports competitions (dodgeball, basketball, handball, rounders)
  • With a total of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

    A special thanks to:

  • Miss Ballard
  • Mr Garvey and Mr Turner
  • Miss Holtom
  • We look forward to applying once again in 2019!
