Happy St David's Day to you all!

The first week of the new half term has been fun-filled and energetic. It has been wonderful to see classes running past my window at all times of the day, chatting to each other and their teachers, as they embark on our new Daily Mile Challenge.

On Thursday we welcomed our Olympian Visitor to school and the children were inspired listening to the many highlights of his career, before being personally coached by him as they took part in the fundraising challenge. Some even managed to get his autograph when he joined them on the playground at lunchtime. A huge thank you for all the money raised through your generous sponsorship, the children will benefit through the purchase of new PE equipment as a result.

Y5 have also been thinking about ways to be generous to others in their RE lessons and today held their Bake Off Competition to raise money for the homeless charity: Shelter. Once again thank you for your generous donations and for giving up your time to make cakes with your children at home. I know Y5 were overwhelmed by the number of cakes they received and the extremely high standard of the entries to the competition. The staff all judged the cakes anonymously at lunchtime and the 2 winners have been revealed below.

Next week is an equally busy week. We look forward to you joining us at Mass at 9.30am on Wednesday to mark the start of Lent and we will be celebrating World Book day on Thursday.

Best wishes,

Mrs Stewart

Polite Notice

As a matter of safety and courtesy to the resident of the house, could parents please ensure that all children are supervised at the beginning and end of the day whilst waiting to enter the playground and not left unattended.

VALUES AND VIRTUES ASSEMBLY:

Well done to everyone who received a certificate this week.

BAG2SCHOOL:

We are having a clothing collection on 19th March and hoped you would take the opportunity for a sort out. Bags and letters went out before the half term and we would like to thank everyone who has already donated. We have spare bags in the school office if you require them.

FOODBANK FRIDAY:

The Junior SVP will be collecting tins or packets of food every Friday which will be donated to Kidderminster Food Bank. Please can your child hand any contributions to their class teacher each week. Thank you for your generous support for this worthy cause.

PTA BOTTLE COLLECTION COMPETITION:

In preparation for the Summer Fete, the PTA would like to get a head start for the bottle tombola! When the pupils return after half term, each class will have a 'Treasure Map'. Every time a pupil brings in a bottle of drink (fizzy pop, squash, alcohol etc) they can colour in another step closer to the treasure chest. The class that is closest when the collection ends in June will get a treat! Every little donation helps make our fundraising a success.

Many thanks,

The PTA.

INSPIRED THROUGH SPORT:

Joe Roebuck the 2012 Olympian, Double Commonwealth and European Medallist Swimmer came into school yesterday to deliver an assembly and to complete activity challenges with all of the year groups.  To date we have received over £1400 in sponsorship money, with some money still left to count!  The children had a fantastic morning and all worked extremely hard in their class activity.  Lots of children also received Joe's autograph at lunchtime and had the opportunity to ask him lots of questions.  Thank you to everyone for your support to make this event such a success; we look forward to seeing which athlete we have next time!

Here are some photo's taken from the day and some quotes from the children.

“I liked the exercises.  It makes us a lot fitter” (Ciaran)

“Exercise can help us get stronger and help us learn better” (Liam)

“I enjoyed learning about Joe’s life in his assembly.  I loved hearing him talk about his dreams.  He taught us we should keep on believing in ourselves and follow our own dreams” (Natalia)

“I enjoyed learning about Joe’s life” (Lilly B)

“I got Joe’s autograph in the playground, which will help me remember him and his life” (Ted)

“We got to ask him lots of questions on the playground – he told us all about how he started swimming, and his life” (Ricky/Andreia)

YEAR 5 BAKE OFF:

The Year 5 Bake Off was another successful fundraiser. Money from the sale will be donated to 'Shelter', a charity who help the homeless.

The winners off the 'Bake Off' are:

KS1 - Robyn Mauger.

KS2 - Max Conway.

Thank you to all parents and children for their amazing efforts and contributions.

BOOK FAIR:

I have arranged for a Book Fair to be held in school from the 13th March until the 19th March. Please come along and purchase some great books to encourage your child(ren) to have a love of reading and to help raise more funds for school to help with our ongoing library fund. Thank you.

WORLD BOOK DAY 7th MARCH

On Thursday 7th March it is World Book Day and as part of our celebrations the children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. There is no obligation to so do however and if they choose not to they are welcome to come to school in their own clothes. To celebrate how much we love reading and with the opening of our new library in mind, staff  have chosen a book, which they will be basing activities on throughout the day.

THERE IS NO EXPECTATION THAT CHILDREN SHOULD DRESS UP AND IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO THEY ARE WELCOME TO COME TO SCHOOL IN THEIR OWN CLOTHES.

Kind regards,

Mrs Stewart & Miss Holtom.

WELL DONE YEAR 2!!!

Good attendance is very important to us here at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School and we are working hard to make sure that all children attend school as often as possible. Our school target is 96%. We understand that children cannot help being ill, but we would urge parents to do their best to ensure that medical and dental appointments are made for outside of school hours. Below is a table highlighting how time off affects a child's learning:

SEN DROP IN:

Appointments on a 1-1 basis can be arranged with Mrs Price - this can also be done via the School Office.
