Our Catholic Mission: 'We do our best by following Jesus.'

Friday 8th September 2023

I hope that you all had a peaceful and restful summer. It was lovely to welcome all the children back to school on Wednesday after the summer holidays. To see the school community back together again and looking so smart, with so many smiling and enthusiastic faces, was really inspiring for us all to see.

I would like to offer the warmest welcome to the Pre-school and Reception children, and their parents/carers. We wish you every success throughout your time at Saint Ambrose School and cannot wait to watch you grow and flourish throughout your time at this school.

2023-2024 is an academic year we will always remember as we now provide an education for children from three to eleven years and run our own Before and After School Club. If you are interested in booking sessions please contact our school office.

We also welcome some new members of staff – Mrs Laskey Head of School, Mrs Bodlovic Year 6 teacher, Mrs Dunn Support Assistant in Year 6 and Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Hunt, Mrs Cotgrave and Mrs Rakowska-Mullard Pre-School staff. We wish them every happiness as they join the Saint Ambrose Community.

As always, this is the start of a very busy, but exciting year. Staff have worked tremendously hard to plan inspiring and thought provoking topics for each class. Through these half termly topics we are dedicated to teaching children the knowledge, skills and understanding in order to allow children to make connections across their learning and the curriculum.

Message from Mrs Laskey

Dear Parents/Carers

It was lovely to see you all on Wednesday morning for the first time and to welcome all the children back to school.  They all came in very refreshed after what I hope was an enjoyable summer break for you all.

I must say my first week, as the new Head of School at Saint Ambrose has been a busy one with so many names to learn and new routines to get to know.

For those of you who don’t know or think they might recognise me, I was a pupil at Saint Ambrose many years ago and continued my education at Hagley RC High School. I’ve been teaching for 20 years and was in my previous role, a Deputy Head Teacher for 12 years.   I have been a member of Saint Ambrose Parish since I was a baby and was also married there.  I have a young family and we enjoy our family walks with our dog Maggie.

A big thank you to you all and to the children and staff who have made me feel very welcome.  I look forward to working with you all over the coming weeks and months.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs S Laskey

Meet the Teachers

On Monday 11th September and Thursday 14th September your child's Class Teacher will be around at the end of the school day (3.25p.m. to 3.35p.m.) to meet you as parents and carers.  This will give you an opportunity to introduce yourself to your child's Class Teacher and to see the classroom that your child is working in. Both dates have been given to hopefully enable all parents and carers to take part in this.

HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

All Year 6 children will today have received a letter with information on applying for their secondary school place for the 2024/25 academic year. Applications need to be completed and submitted by no later than the 31st of October.

Please speak to the school office if you require and assistance in making your application.

The Year 6 Confirmation meeting dates have been re-sent today via Arbor.

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.
