Message from Mrs Laskey

Dear Parents and Carers

On Sunday we will celebrate the First Sunday of Advent, which is the start of the new liturgical year. Advent is a time for us all to prepare our hearts for Jesus' coming. On Monday we will start the Season of Advent by gathering together in the hall and the children will be given the opportunity to think of different ways that they can prepare for the season of Christmas.

Here are some facts about Advent

  • The word 'Advent' comes from the Latin 'Advenio', meaning 'the coming' - in the present tense, not referring to a past event
  • Advent lasts for 4 weeks
  • We have an Advent Wreath to show the countdown to Christmas
  • The lighting of the candles reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world
  • The wreath is in a circular shape and so there is no end. This reminds us that God's love for us has no end.
  • The evergreen leaves are also used to show God's everlasting love
  • The colour purple is used during Advent to remind us that we are in a time of preparation
  • During Advent we make promises that prepare us for the second coming of Jesus Christ
  • Each week have a different focus

Reverse Advent Calendar

St Ambrose, along with the Emmaus Catholic MAC, are supporting the Reverse Advent Calendar Appeal in support of Father Hudson's Caritas. A letter has come home with your child today asking for donations of toiletries for people in need and these will be distributed to people who may be living on the streets, asylum seekers, refugees or families arriving to our country. We kindly ask that you help us to support this worthy cause.

Emmaus Advent Journey

All of the schools within the MAC have been asked to create a prayer display linked to the Advent Journey. St Ambrose was allocated:

'A Special Visit: Luke 1:30-31'.

The angel Gabriel told Mary that she will give birth to the Son of God, and she responds with immediate surrender to her role in God’s plan. She had no assurance of a comfortable outcome. A virgin engaged to be married, she likely knew how difficult giving birth to and raising Jesus would be. The only assurance Mary received was God’s Word, and it was enough for her to say “yes.”

‘And the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God.
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall call his name Jesus.’

Emmaus Mac Newsletter

On Tuesday 3 December 2024, Migrants' Day, we are asked to pray specifically for migrants and refugees. Earlier this year, Pope Francis offered this prayer.
God, Almighty Father,
we are your pilgrim Church
journeying towards the Kingdom of heaven.
We live in our homeland,
but as if we were foreigners.
Every foreign place is our home,
yet every native land is foreign to us.
Though we live on earth,
our true citizenship is in heaven.
Do not let us become possessive
of the portion of the world
you have given us as a temporary home.
Help us to keep walking,
together with our migrant brothers and sisters,
toward the eternal dwelling you have prepared for us.
Open our eyes and our hearts
so that every encounter with those in need
becomes an encounter with Jesus, your Son and our Lord.
Amen.

YEAR 6 CONFIRMATION

An information letter regarding your child's confirmation has been sent out today. Please contact Mrs Shevas on Monday morning if you have not received this.

Like and Follow our page on Facebook to keep up to date with all the comings and goings at St Ambrose!

Please ensure you have given social media consent on Arbor if you would like your child to be featured!

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

The Attendance Policy 2024-2025 states that:
Parents are asked to inform the school before 8.50a.m. on their child's first day of absence. This can be done via telephone (01562 823568) or email (enquiry_amb@emmausmac.com).  Parents are asked to keep the school informed of the child's continued absence if it does not constitute the 48 hours rule for the sickness bug.

We will continue sending out regular communications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.
