Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

Hopefully now as the days become brighter for longer, the weather (hopefully) will provide us with some sunshine! And although it is the last term of this academic year, it is as busy as any other, as the children work hard on the remaining objectives for their particular year. Please continue to hear your child/children read daily, complete homework, practice times tables, etc. Whatever you do to help them now will put them in good stead for the following year. Most importantly, please ensure your child(ren) is in school every single day – on time. Lost time is lost experiences. As it is the final term of the academic year, children will be going on trips, have visitors linked to topics and receive rewards. School is too exciting to miss!

Year 6 SATs

Parents of Year 6 pupils will be aware that their children will be undertaking the compulsory national tests this half term. This will take place the week commencing 13th May 2024. It is essential that every Year 6 child is in school every day that week. The tests cannot be rescheduled. Please do all you can to support your child at this time.

I would like to thank all parents and carers, who when dropping off and picking up their children at school, comply with traffic road markings such as double yellow lines, zigzags, etc., and avoid obstructing vehicle access points which serve private properties. By adhering to the rules of the road and parking safely we are looking after each other and supporting our community.

Thank you for your support.

We are very proud of our school and of our pupils and believe that high standards of uniform, behaviour, being properly equipped and attending regularly give every one of our pupils the very best chance of learning well and achieving their very best.

Uniform is an important part of a school’s identity. It reinforces who we are as a community and helps allow students to feel pride in their school. It also helps prepare students for life after school where many will have to dress smartly for work.

Message from Mrs Laskey

Dear Parents and Carers,

The week was started with a beautiful Mass in Church with all the Reception and Key Stage One children. Canon Lamb spoke to all the children about the Good Shepherd.  He explained how the shepherd represents Jesus and as his sheep we are to follow Him. The Good Shepherd guides, protects and comforts us in times of need.

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me,” John 10:14

Well done to all the readers for reading so clearly, and to all the children who were excellent with their responses. Thank you to Canon Lamb and to the parents who were able to attend.

It was lovely today to see such an array of trainers, sandals, wellies, boots and shoes all in aid of Father Hudson's Care. Each child was asked to donate £1 for the charity. The prime purpose of Father Hudson's Care is to provide a range of services to people across the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, an area encompassing Oxford, Stoke-On-Trent, Coventry, Warwick, Worcester and Wolverhampton. They work with people from all walks of life, offering friendship, care and support. You can still make a voluntary donation of a minimum of £1 on ParentPay and we will let you know next week how much money was raised.

The winners of the best odd shoe pairing were:

Nursery – Alaina

Reception – Elwood

Year One – Florence W

Year Two – Anna

Year Three – Harriet

Year Four – Jack

Year Five – Ruby

Year Six – James

Well done and enjoy your chocolate buttons!

Today in assembly the Upper Key Stage Two Liturgical Group reminded the children about the poster design competition for the Year of Prayer. The poster design must celebrate Pope Francis’ Five Finger Prayer and needs to be in school by Monday 29th April 2024 ready to be displayed around school. There will be prizes for the best designs and I look forward to seeing them.

Have a lovely weekend.
