Thank you to those families that have already sent in FoodBank donations. There will be a basket in the reception area after half term for you to add further donations. Thank you for your continued support.

Message from Mrs Brocklesby

This term is always very busy, as we fastly approach the final half term before we break up for summer. It is also the term where you suddenly realise how much progress the children have made over the last academic year and how much they have grown and changed since the beginning of September. School life is very busy, and I think it is really important that we take a moment to recognise the growth of every individual in our school; the progress they have made both academically and socially, and the experiences they have had. As the final half term approaches, I would ask that you take note of the diary dates, as there is always so much on at the end of the year.

Message from Mrs Laskey

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Monday, as a whole school we gathered for the special feast of Pentecost.  We heard the scripture reading from the Acts of the Apostles and remembered how the gift of the Holy Spirit enabled the apostles to continue Jesus’ work and so the Church was born.

On Wednesday as the whole country were informed of the General Election, our Year Six children and staff were lucky to be in the middle of the speculation and excitement as they were on their school trip to the Houses of Parliament. The children were all a credit to St Ambrose and it was a wonderful experience for us all. The staff at the Houses of Parliament were all very welcoming and we were luckily enough to see both Houses in action by sitting in the public gallery. The children then took part in a workshop where they learnt more about the history of parliament and then they took part in their own debate. Please see below for quotes from the children and photographs of the day.

To add to the whole experience the drive into London, with Mrs Shevas as the nominated tour guide, was memorable and the singing from the children was electric. However, by 9p.m. the coach became quieter and I’m sure they all slept well that evening.
Thank you to Mrs Shevas and Mrs Joyner for organising the trip and to Mrs Dunne, Mrs Bailey and Mrs O’Hara for supporting the visit.

I wish you all a lovely half term break.  Let’s hope the sun comes out to play again!

Niamh:
'It was really interesting hearing a debate in the House of Lords because they have a serious job to do reviewing new laws. It was good fun singing on the bus too!'

Michal:
'Seeing the House of Commons was great. It was interesting hearing the results of their votes on laws.'

Jason:
'I enjoyed the workshop at the end of our tour because we had a class debate. We split into two government parties and debated whether or not smoking should be banned. It was fun shouting 'Hear Hear!' and heckling the opposition.'

Isaac:
'I felt really adventurous travelling all the way down to London and exploring a new area. Having Mrs Shevas as a tour guide was fabulous. I've never been to London before and I can't wait to go again!'

Fia-Bella:
'I liked having our own debate during the workshop - it was great to be allowed to argue! It was a long day but we sang on the coach and had loads of fun.'

It has been a fantastic week for Year 6 who have been celebrating the end of their SATs tests!

On Wednesday they went down to London for a guided tour and education workshop at the Houses of Parliament...

On Thursday, they had a pizza making workshop with Paige from Class Catering - they demonstrated fantastic listening skills, designed some fantastic pizzas, and enjoyed eating them at lunch time!

We were treated to the Reception's class assembly this morning. It started with loud and clear voices letting us know the important message that 'We are all Unique.' We were reminded that we are all beautiful and important, just as we are. We are all made in the image and likeness of God and have great value. Reception showed us that everyone is special and that we should treat every person the same way we want to be treated. They sang their hearts out for their three songs. What beautiful singing!  It was wonderful to hear about Reception's different talents and celebrating our different cultures.  We are so proud of you Reception for your first class assembly. Thank you to Miss Gawthorp and Mrs Doohan for preparing the assembly with the children.

Thank you to all the children who designed a poster for Pope Francis' Five Finger Prayer.  The Liturgical Group have displayed them in the corridor for all to see.  The Liturgical Group voted for the winners this week.  Well done to Alwen Y2, Katie Y6 and Charlie Y6.
They were presented with their prize this morning in assembly.

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

Please see the ‘Come and Pray with Us’ sessions below.

On the afternoon, please come to the School Reception (Office) and sign in. Grandparents and younger siblings are welcome to attend.
