SAINTS PROJECT CHALLENGE

After half term, we will be holding our very own Saints Exhibition - we are asking for pupils to research and celebrate the life of a chosen saint and the work produced will be celebrated in a whole school exhibition gallery. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to work together on this project over half term and there will be prizes for some of the most creative entries. Please see the flyer below:

MULTI-FAITH WEEK

This week has been a very important week in school - it has been Multi-Faith week, where we have been learning all about different faiths. Today, we also all came to school wearing odd socks to show that we are all made in the image and likeness of God but we are all different and we love and respect our differences.

In Reception, they have been learning about Christianity - they found lots of crosses in the Church of England Church. They also made their own churches and made a Vicar to go inside the church.

Year 1 have enjoyed celebrating Multi-Faith week. We learnt all about 'Christianity' and explored Christian churches and their beautiful stained-glass windows. We thoroughly enjoyed creating our own stained-glass windows during our Art lessons.

Year 2 pupils have been learning all about Buddhism. "I enjoyed learning about the Buddhist temple and that there are five elements to the temple." "I learnt that the golden fish symbol is for happiness."

Year 3 have been exploring all about Hinduism. They have really enjoyed learning about the story of Rama and Sita and how this links to Divali. We created paper Divali lamps and some small divals out of clay!

Year 4 have been learning all about Judaism. They decided to set up an area in their classroom to show their respect and tolerance for other faiths and were encouraged to visit the area throughout the week.

Year 5 have been learning about Sikhism and on Tuesday two students from Hagley came to talk about their faith and they had the opportunity to ask them lots of questions.

Year 6 have been learning all about Islam. Please listen to two interviews that some children have prepared all about an Islam festival. Well done, Harley, Woody, Rocco, Darcey and Polly. We would like to say a huge thank you to Umar who has shared his faith with us this week and brought in things for us to look at and learn all about.

'This week has been AMAZING because I got to share all about my faith with the whole class' -Umar

EMOTIONAL WELLBEING SUPPORT

Dear parent/carers – I have been working closely with St Ambrose to understand and support students, parents, and staff with their emotional and mental wellbeing. Please keep an eye out for future events for the possibility to have a chat with me, learn something new and meet other parents in a similar position. We will be offering drop-in sessions and workshops for those of you that would like to attend. Each term there will be a different topic. Keep an eye out for these and I look forward to meeting you. The drop-in sessions  will be for 15 minutes and can be booked between 2pm and 3pm on the first Tuesday of every month starting on Tuesday 1st November. The flyer below identifies the work I do, please book your session via school life.

SHOUT OUT

This week, I would like to give a shout out to our Year 6 pupils who helped set up school ready for our Open Day and showed prospective parents around our school. They were a credit to Saint Ambrose. Well done.

Please check your child's class page to find their login details for Oxford Owl. Your child will be able to access free ebooks online to read at home.

This year, our Reading Ambassadors are inviting children to donate a book to the library when it is their birthday, instead of sweets. They will then present to the whole school in assembly. We will put a plaque inside each book showing our appreciation and they can add their own personal quote about reading to it. We are really excited to continue growing our library of books in school.

Rewarding reading at home

Our Reading Ambassadors will be asking their teachers on a Monday, to see how many children have read at least 5x week at home for the previous week. Then the winning class will be announced in assembly. The winning class will then choose a book for us to purchase to go into their class library. Please keep listening to your children and encouraging them to read - it is so important.

PARISH NEWS

UCM GROUP

This half term it has been lovely to meet representatives form the Parish UCM group.

It is a National Organisation of Women, open to all women. The Union of Catholic Mothers organises some fantastic activities in the Parish Hall and would welcome any visitors or new members. They run a craft club on the 1st and 2nd Tuesday of every month from 2-4pm. Everyone is welcome and you can pop in before you collect or after collection.

The UCM group over the next few weeks will be dropping flyers into school about their activities and will be available in the playground (dates to be confirmed) to answer any questions and tell us about future events.

CHURCH CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

The Christmas Bazaar this year will be on Sunday 4th December at 12 o'clock after Mass in the Parish Centre. It will be wonderful to see as many families as possible especially as the choir will be singing carols around the Christmas tree.

Would you like to join the Parish flower  group?

Any help you can give will be much appreciated. Whether you already have flower arranging experience or are just a beginner. They are very short and helpers and any assistance would be very welcome.  Training and guidance will be given to any beginners. Please phone or text Elaine Yates on 07951 535843 if you are interested. Many thanks.

STAY SAFE ONLINE

Please read the following tips to share with your son or daughter about staying safe online:

  • Never give out personal information. This includes online people you know as well. Keep them private!
  • Never send pictures of yourself because once it’s online, it’s there forever, and it could get into the wrong hands.
  • Don’t make friends with people you don’t know. People are not always who they say they are.
  • Tell your parents/carers what you’re doing online so they can act fast if there are any issues and can vet whether the website is safe for use
  • Leave the website and tell a trusted adult immediately if you see something that concerns you or makes you feel unsafe
  • Never show your real name, age or where you live in your username
  • Use strong passwords which have a mix of numbers, letters and symbols
  • Do not share passwords with others
  • Don’t open an attachment unless you’re 100% sure it’s safe
  • Don’t let strangers into your video calls. Blur your background so you don’t give away any information about where you are.
  • Be careful who you webcam with
  • Don’t meet up with someone you’ve only met online
  • Be nice online
  • Think before your post! This applies to when you send or forward content.

Please see the confirmed term dates below for 2022/23.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Brocklesby
