Message from Mrs Laskey

I’d like to acknowledge the recent warm weather and how well the children have adapted. They’ve done a great job remembering to stay hydrated, take off their jumpers, and look after themselves during the hotter days. It’s been lovely to see them managing so sensibly and supporting one another too.

We were delighted to hold our annual Sports Day on Tuesday this week, and what a fantastic day it was! Throughout the day children showed great resilience and energy, and the atmosphere across all sessions was full of enthusiasm, encouragement, and team spirit.

The day was thoughtfully organised into three sessions to accommodate all of our pupils, from Nursery through to Year 6. Each group participated with excitement and confidence, showing not only physical ability but also the qualities of sportsmanship and teamwork that we value so highly at our school. The rotation of activities ensured that every child had the opportunity to try a variety of events and contribute to their house team. It was wonderful to see the children cheering each other on, celebrating effort as much as achievement.

A special mention must go to the children who supported their peers—whether that was helping to explain an activity, offering a hand to someone who had fallen, or simply sharing a kind word. Those moments of care and kindness are what truly made the day special.

We were also thrilled to welcome so many parents, grandparents, and extended family members to join us. Your presence made the day even more memorable. The cheers, applause, and encouragement from the side lines created a wonderful, supportive environment, and we know how much the children appreciated having you there.

Thank you also to our staff team, especially Miss Noble, our PE Lead whose careful planning, organisation, and energy ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Next week Miss Noble will be sending out a Microsoft Form to gain some parent feedback about the day.

We are delighted to celebrate the First Holy Communion Mass tomorrow and congratulate all the children who will receive the special sacrament of the Eucharist. They have prepared with great care, reverence, and understanding, and we are proud of their commitment throughout this important part of their faith journey. As a school and parish community, we hold them in our prayers and ask for God’s continued guidance and blessings as they grow in faith. A heartfelt thank you to Miss Morgan, Mrs Baylie and Mrs Dunne for their dedication and support in preparing the children so thoughtfully in school.

During our school Mass today Canon Lamb invited all the children and their families to join the Parish in the celebration of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which will be observed this Sunday.

The Solemn Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., after which the Blessed Sacrament will be processed along Birmingham Road and Leswell Street to the school balcony, where Eucharistic Benediction will be given to the whole parish.

Canon Lamb has asked all the First Holy Communicants to take part in the procession, dressed as they were on their First Holy Communion Day as it is a beautiful opportunity to honour the significance of the sacrament they will have received the day before.

Following the procession, all families and parishioners are warmly invited to join the parish for a picnic in the Rectory Garden, as well as to enjoy refreshments in the Adams Lounge and Borromeo Hall.

It would be lovely to see this as a community coming together in faith and celebration.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Jubilee Prayer

Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.

May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.

Amen

Attendance

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

The Attendance Policy 2024-2025 states that:
Parents are asked to inform the school before 8.50a.m. on their child's first day of absence. This can be done via telephone (01562 823568) or email (enquiry_amb@emmausmac.com).  Parents are asked to keep the school informed of the child's continued absence if it does not constitute the 48 hours rule for the sickness bug.

We will continue sending out regular communications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

The UCM (United Catholic Mothers) meet every other Monday evening at 7pm in term time and would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to become a member. They play a pivotal role fundraising activities for the Church and also devote their time to helping out at school functions such as school fete, holy communion etc. You wouldn't necessarily have to come to all the meetings but any availability to help out at functions would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Brocklesby and Mrs Laskey
