Message from Mrs Brocklesby

I know I say it every year, but truly, where has this year gone?! As I reflect on the last academic year I am nothing but proud of all that the children and staff have achieved. The pupils of Saint Ambrose truly do live out our vision of ”doing our best by following Jesus," - and this has been seen in abundance throughout the year, both academically but also socially and reflected in our CSI report. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every member of our staff team, who provide so many opportunities for the pupils of our school. There is so
much they do that is never seen, but I recognise it and I am very grateful indeed for all that they do.
Thanks also goes to parents and carers, who always support us in their child’s education. Thank you for making my job so much easier with your steadfast
support in all we do. I wish you all nothing but a blessed and joyful summer holiday and wish pupils leaving us nothing but happiness in their new setting. We shall miss each and every one of you!

Message from Mrs Laskey

Dear Parents and Carers

The end of the academic year has arrived!

We had a wonderful start to the week with the final performance of the Year Six production to the parents on Monday evening.  I had heard a few of the rehearsals but nothing prepared me to see the wonderful talent that was on display.  The characterisation through the children’s acting, the singing including solos, dancing and the humour was great.  A treat for us all and a wonderful memory of our Year Six children. I would especially like to thank Mrs. Shevas, Mrs. Joyner and Mrs. Dunn for all their work and the support they have given to the children during the rehearsals and performances.

We celebrated Leavers’ Mass on Wednesday with our Year Six children and parents, and it was wonderful to gather yesterday for a beautiful whole school Mass to thank God for all our achievements this year. Thank you to all the readers, altar servers, the children for their responses and beautiful singing and to Father Lamb.

Today, as well as saying goodbye to our Year Six children we are also saying farewell to Mrs. George (Year Three Class Teacher) and Mrs. Phipps (Learning Support Assistant).  We wish them the best of luck in their new schools.

Moving on always brings mixed feelings and emotions. We can feel excited, disappointed, worried, happy and sad all at the same time but remember, “You will always get to where you are going by walking away from where you have been”

In our final assembly this morning we congratulated eight children who have achieved 100% attendance for this academic year.  Well done to Harriet, Joshua B, Tiana, Tommy, Robyn M, Gianna, Carmen and Isla R.  We also presented one child from every year group with a St Ambrose Pupil of the Year Award. Congratulations to Isaac H, Eva, Florence W, Nellie, Carmen, Hetty, Ivy and Louie on being recognised for your true discipleship and following our school mission ‘We do our best by following Jesus’.

On behalf of all the staff thank you for all your lovely gifts, messages, and kind words of support.

On a personal note, I would like to thank you all for your warm welcome over the year and thank you to our staff team and the Governors for always doing the best for our children.

To the children, thank you for always working hard and reminding me every day why I went into teaching.  A school is a very busy place to be, and no day is ever the same, but I agree with the CSI Inspectors at St Ambrose ‘everyone is valued and made to feel special’.

I wish you all a lovely summer break and I look forward to seeing those of you who are returning, back in school on Wednesday 4th September.

Mrs Laskey

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

Taking place annually at all Worcestershire Libraries,  The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to keep reading during the summer holidays.

Children’s reading can ‘dip’ during the long summer holidays if they don’t have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure. The Summer Reading Challenge helps by regularly reaching over 700,000 children each year, motivating them to visit their local library and keep reading during the holidays, and in turn helping them to maintain or improve their reading skills and confidence.

The Summer Reading Challenge can:

  • help to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’ for pupils
  • ensure your pupils are ready for their return to school in the autumn
  • support the transition between year groups and key stages
  • improve language skills, especially for those for whom English is a second language

Each year the Summer Reading Challenge has a new theme. For 2024, The Reading Agency is teaming up with Create for 'Marvellous Makers' a creative arts themed Challenge that will encourage storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.

Find out more about 'Marvellous Makers' here.

Did you know that Worcestershire Library membership is FREE? You can sign up online or by visiting your local library (Kidderminster). Throughout the year, our libraries organise various events and activities. Discover what’s on by visiting our website and following our social media channels.

SUMMER WELLBEING NEWSLETTER

National College - Online Trolling

Trolling is the act of making inflammatory comments or behaving in an abusive manner online to hurt the feelings of others or provoke a reaction from them 😡 It is estimated that in 2022, over a third (34%) of people in the UK who suffered online abuse were specifically victims of trolling. The repercussions of this type of online abuse can be severe, which is why it is imperative that parents and educators have the tools to mitigate the risk of harm to children and young people.

In this week's guide, we offer expert insight into the act of online trolling and provide advice on how to protect children and young people if they encounter it themselves, helping them minimise the impact of this hurtful behaviour.

Please follow the link for more information on how to recognise and deal with online trolling.
