Our Catholic Mission: 'We do our best by following Jesus.'

Friday 17th March 2023

Remember to say this prayer on Mothering Sunday.

Thank you, Lord, for all who care, Bless them with your love. Thanks for mothers everywhere, Bless them with your love. For those who brighten up our day Bless them with your love. Who always have the right words to say, Bless them with your love. Thanks for hugs, and love and smiles Bless them with your love. Thanks for all those extra miles Bless them with your love. Help them when times get tough, Bless them with your love. And when they feel they’re not enough Bless them with your love. For those who always wanted children, Bless them with your love. For those who have lost children, Bless them with your love. For those who have lost their mothers, Bless them with your love. Help us always think first of others, Bless them with your love.

Amen

LAST WEEK'S STARS

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

DRESS LIKE A TEACHER DAY

The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as a teacher for the day. The children got into character and the teachers even dressed up as students.

There were some misbehaved children throughout the day, which made some of the teachers very upset. We had some late arrivals who received some disapproving looks from their teachers, children refusing to come inside after playtime and children who were sent to the Principal's office. It was such a fun day!

Talents in Reception

Reception children celebrated their talents linked to the Parable of the Talents.

Each child sat on the talent mat to talk about their talents.

They were asked What are your gifts? and Who is God calling you to be?

Freddie-My talent is a clown. I can make people laugh and do tricks.

Evander-My talent is dancing.

Henry-My talent is being a member of Squirrels. I got a badge for going on a long walk.

God gives each of us talents and wants us to use them.

YOUTH ADVOCACY VOLUNTEER

National Youth Advocacy service are a children’s rights charity who support children and young people in care across England and Wales.  www.nyas.net

We are recruiting for volunteers in Kidderminster to befriend and mentor a young person in care.  We hope this is an opportunity that you may be interested in?

The Role

“My IV is very caring and has helped me a lot. She is really important to me.” Young Person

An Independent Visitor is a positive adult role model who provides support and friendship to a young person in care.  You will enjoy fun activities together which will give the young person unforgettable memories and experiences.  Your consistent friendship will help the young person raise their aspirations, learn new skills, build self-esteem, confidence, and resilience.

“Acting as an IV makes me feel special, especially when the young person enjoys our activities.  It is extremely rewarding to see the pleasure that they get from our time together.” Volunteer IV

We are looking for fun, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers from all different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.  You do not need any formal qualifications to become a volunteer, but it is helpful if you have some knowledge and practical experience of involvement with children and young people.

Children and young people who are looked after need an adult who has time to spend with them, take them on activities and be someone they can talk to and trust.  You can fit your visits in around your own time and work commitments.  We only ask that you can commit to a few hours once per month for a minimum of 2 years. Activity and travel expenses are covered.

“It provides an opportunity for young people to try things they may not otherwise building confidence and aspirations.” Volunteer IV

As part of the recruitment process you will need to complete an application form, interview, enhanced DBS check, references and digital risk assessment.  We offer a full support package including induction training, online mandatory training and one to one support by your IV Coordinator throughout your volunteer journey.

If you’re interested in becoming an Independent Visitor, we’d love to hear from you.  To find out more about the role please check out our webpage www.nyas.net

If you have any questions, or if you need any help applying, or just want an informal chat to see if this role is for you, please contact Volunteer coordinator – Diana Harding, diana.harding@nyas.net to discuss.

THIS HALF TERM'S VIRTUES: LEARNED AND WISE

This half term, we are growing to be Learned and Wise.

Learned: learning how God wants us to live our lives Whether we are young or old, we should never stop learning about what God wants of us. We learn many new things each day. By reading the Bible, listening to our teachers and listening to our hearts, we learn more of what God wants.

Wise: knowing how God wants us to live our lives and putting it into practice. God is always with us and hoping that we will live our lives in the right way, following the teachings of Jesus.

If you spot your child being learned and wise at home, please let Miss Holtom know so they can receive a special certificate in our Virtues Assembly - year6@emmausmac.com

Celebrate reading at our Book Fair! Our book fair has arrived in school and will be with us until the 21st March. It is open from 3.30-4.00pm and an online payment system is in place where you can scan the QR code to purchase any book. For every book purchased, you will help earn free books for our school.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD APPEAL

During Lent, we will be supporting The Good Shepherd appeal. Before half term, your child should have come home with a special envelope; if you can over the next few weeks please spare any coins you may have and pop into the envelope. All monies raised go toward supporting a wonderful charity: Father Hudsons, who help support children, families and adults in need. Thank you.

STAY SAFE ONLINE

Please read the following tips to share with your son or daughter about staying safe online:

  • Never give out personal information. This includes online people you know as well. Keep them private!
  • Never send pictures of yourself because once it’s online, it’s there forever, and it could get into the wrong hands.
  • Don’t make friends with people you don’t know. People are not always who they say they are.
  • Tell your parents/carers what you’re doing online so they can act fast if there are any issues and can vet whether the website is safe for use
  • Leave the website and tell a trusted adult immediately if you see something that concerns you or makes you feel unsafe
  • Never show your real name, age or where you live in your username
  • Use strong passwords which have a mix of numbers, letters and symbols
  • Do not share passwords with others
  • Don’t open an attachment unless you’re 100% sure it’s safe
  • Don’t let strangers into your video calls. Blur your background so you don’t give away any information about where you are.
  • Be careful who you webcam with
  • Don’t meet up with someone you’ve only met online
  • Be nice online
  • Think before your post! This applies to when you send or forward content.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Brocklesby
