Message from Mrs Laskey

Welcome back to school after the Easter break. It has been wonderful to see the children return, many of them now wearing their summer uniforms, a sure sign that the new season is upon us. The school has quickly been filled again with energy, enthusiasm and a sense of joy as we begin this new term together.
We began the week by gathering as a whole school for a Celebration of the Word, centred on the Easter story. This was a special time for prayer and reflection, where we explored the meaning of the Resurrection and the joy that Easter brings. The children reflected on the importance of the word Alleluia—a word of praise and celebration—and how it reminds us of the hope and new life that Jesus brings. We considered how the season of Easter invites each of us to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with God.
On Wednesday, we came together once again as a whole school to celebrate Mass. It was a reverent and joyful occasion, bringing our community together in prayer. During the Mass, Father Lamb spoke to the children about the Paschal Candle and its importance within the Church. He explained how it represents the light of Christ, shining in the darkness and reminding us that Jesus is always with us.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our ministers for their beautiful reading and altar serving, showing great reverence and confidence in their roles. We are also very grateful to all the families who were able to join us; your presence helped to make the celebration even more special and meaningful for the children.
As we continue through the Season of Easter, we will be using the coming weeks to explore our diocesan mission in light of the Resurrection. Each week, we will reflect on the Gospel and think carefully about how its message can guide our actions and choices in everyday life. Through this, we aim to deepen the children’s understanding of what it means to live as followers of Christ.
In particular, we will focus on our mission to become Christ-centred pilgrims of hope. We will encourage the children to develop kind and compassionate hearts, to ask thoughtful questions, to nurture a thirst for knowledge, and to grow in their understanding of justice and fairness. By reflecting on the teachings of Jesus, we hope to inspire the children to live out these values both in school and in the wider world.
This weekend’s Gospel, recounting the journey on the Road to Emmaus, reminds us that we are all pilgrims on a journey of faith, and it beautifully links to our mission as pilgrims of hope, recognising Christ walking alongside us, guiding us and filling us with renewed hope.
