Harvest Mass Celebration

Today, as a school, we came together to celebrate our Harvest Mass, giving thanks to God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us and reflecting on the importance of sharing with those in need. It was a wonderful occasion filled with prayer, gratitude and community spirit.

Thank you to our readers and altar servers, who carried out their ministry with such reverence and confidence, helping to make the celebration so special. We are also incredibly grateful to Fr Lamb for leading such a thoughtful and joyful Mass and helping us to reflect on the true meaning of Harvest.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all members of our school community who generously donated items for Kidderminster Food Bank. Your kindness and compassion will make a real difference to local families who may be experiencing difficulties. The Food Bank was extremely appreciative of the donations received, and it is wonderful to see our school putting faith into action by supporting those in our local community.

A special well done must go to our Reception children, who attended their very first school Mass today. Looking fantastic in their scarecrow outfits, they reminded us of the hardworking farmers who play such an important role at this time of year, harvesting crops and providing food for our communities. Their costumes helped us to reflect on the vocation of farmers and the dedication, care and effort involved in bringing food from field to table.

It was lovely to see how confidently our Reception children participated in the celebration. Having now been part of the St Ambrose family for six whole weeks, they have settled into school life exceptionally well. They have embraced new routines, developed friendships and shown great enthusiasm for their learning. We are incredibly proud of them and all they have achieved in such a short time.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today's Harvest Mass such a meaningful and memorable celebration. It was a beautiful opportunity to come together in thanksgiving, celebrate God's abundant gifts and support those in need within our wider community. Through acts of generosity and service, we continue to live out our Mission as a caring and faith-filled school family.

Celebrating Birthdays While Prioritising Attendance

At St. Ambrose, we know that birthdays are very special occasions and an important time for children and families to celebrate together. However, regular school attendance is vital to children's learning, progress, wellbeing and friendships. Every day in school matters, and even occasional absences can mean children miss valuable learning experiences and important moments with their classmates.

Having reviewed our attendance data, we have noticed that a number of children have been absent from school on their birthdays. These absences are recorded as unauthorised absences and can have an impact on a child's overall attendance percentage.

Following discussions with pupils during a recent Pupil Voice session, we have introduced a new way to celebrate birthdays at school while ensuring children do not miss a day of learning.

Birthday Mufti Day

From now on:
  • If it is your birthday on a school day, you may come to school in your own clothes (mufti) instead of wearing school uniform.
  • If your birthday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, you may wear your own clothes on the Friday before.
  • If your birthday falls during a school holiday, you may wear your own clothes on the Friday before the holiday begins.
  • If the chosen day is already a whole-school Mufti Day, you may wear your own clothes on the Thursday instead.
As a special introduction to this new initiative, any child whose birthday has already taken place between 1st September and 18th October may come to school in their own clothes on Monday 19th October.

We hope this new tradition will help make birthdays even more special while reinforcing the importance of excellent attendance. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring every child attends school regularly and makes the most of every learning opportunity.
