YEAR 6 YOUNG CITIZENS CHALLENGE

Yesterday year 6 took part in the Young Citizens Challenge, an initiative aimed to encourage youngsters to think about their personal safety and the safety of others as they face a range of different situations.

This year's Young Citizens Challenge, organised by Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) and supported by West Mercia Police, Worcestershire County Council's Road Safety Department and the Anti-Social Behaviour Team invited schools from the Wyre Forest to take aprt.

Year Six pupils from schools across Kidderminster are participating in the event and each team is awarded points for their behaviour and the skills they demonstrate as they attempt each of the four challenges. These included a range of safety-related situations children might face, such as how to get out of a smoke-filled house or what action to take if they witness a crime. They were also encouraged to consider anti-social behaviour and the effects it can have on a local community, and to understand the dangers and consequences of throwing objects at passing vehicles.

I am delighted to inform you yesterday our year 6 class school higher than another school. The leaders also felt they were fantastic role models for Saint Ambrose, well done everyone!

RECEPTION NEWS

Reception have been working to take care of God's gifts. This wonderful initiative started with Freddie who came in with a book called 'There's a Rang-Tan in my bedroom.'

Freddie: I wanted to show Reception that people were cutting down the orangutans' homes in the rainforest. I asked Reception for their help. We have also written to Cadbury's and Nestle to see how they use palm oil.
Paddy: I raised money by making leaflets to give to my neighbours about saving the orangutans.
Charlotte: We are raising money to care for God's gifts.
Florence: We are saving the orangutans homes in the rainforest. We want to make a difference and look after God's gifts. It is all our home so we must look after it because it is God's gift to us.

So far we have raised £118.54. A big thank you for all your support. This will be used to adopt an orangutan. Our adoption will not only empower orangutans, but also support their homes, such as tree planting, and protecting and restoring rainforests – these vital habitats help capture harmful carbon, slowing down climate change.

Paddy has made his own start on collecting money to save the orangutan. He has drawn some beautiful pictures of orangutans with writing and sold them to the neighbours. He has made £18!! Well done Paddy!!

YEAR 5 LEARNING

In Year 5, we looked at the logos of St Ambrose and Emmaus Mac and thought about how the story of our school saint and the story of The Road To Emmaus can help us follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

UNIFORM

Children are NOW able to wear summer uniform. Sandals are permitted but please do not send your child in open toe sandals. Summer uniform is not obligatory if your child prefers to carry on wearing a white shirt and tie. We are grateful to all parents who adhere to the school uniform policy thus ensuring we maintain high standards of appearance and consequently attitude and behaviour. Thank you, next week I will be contacting families to offer support if children are not attending school in the correct uniform.

CUB SCOUTS NEED YOU!

My name is Karen aka Hathi, I’m an Assistant Cub Scout Leader at Harkaway Scout group based in Broadwaters.
Our cubs are getting older and moving on to Scouts, and sadly our numbers are depleting. If your child is in Year 4 or Year 5 and would be interested in joining this activity group please contact Daisy at CUBS@KD11.ORG.UK

THIS HALF TERM'S VIRTUES: INTENTIONAL AND PROPHETIC

This half term, we will be focussing on the virtues Intentional and Prophetic.

Intentional: planning our actions and choosing to live how God wants us to.

Every action we make has an impact on other people and the world around us. If we live intentionally, we listen to our conscience and deliberately decide that the actions we take will have a positive impact. We use the earth’s resources wisely, think about the choices we make, and care for God’s creation.

Prophetic: spreading the word of God through how we live our lives.

As we choose to act intentionally and make good decisions, we encourage others to do the same. We set a good example through our words and deeds and inspire other people to act in a positive and wise way. We help people to make the right decisions
themselves and think about how God wants them to live their lives.

We will celebrate the pupils who have demonstrated these virtues in a special assembly at the end of this year.

STAY SAFE ONLINE

Please read the following tips to share with your son or daughter about staying safe online:

  • Never give out personal information. This includes online people you know as well. Keep them private!
  • Never send pictures of yourself because once it’s online, it’s there forever, and it could get into the wrong hands.
  • Don’t make friends with people you don’t know. People are not always who they say they are.
  • Tell your parents/carers what you’re doing online so they can act fast if there are any issues and can vet whether the website is safe for use
  • Leave the website and tell a trusted adult immediately if you see something that concerns you or makes you feel unsafe
  • Never show your real name, age or where you live in your username
  • Use strong passwords which have a mix of numbers, letters and symbols
  • Do not share passwords with others
  • Don’t open an attachment unless you’re 100% sure it’s safe
  • Don’t let strangers into your video calls. Blur your background so you don’t give away any information about where you are.
  • Be careful who you webcam with
  • Don’t meet up with someone you’ve only met online
  • Be nice online
  • Think before your post! This applies to when you send or forward content.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Brocklesby
