Our Sports Day – Fun and Games Festival is due to take place on Monday 13th July. Following careful consideration of the current weather warnings and forecast of extreme temperatures, we have made some adjustments to the timetable to help ensure the event can take place as safely as possible.

To reduce the amount of time children are active outdoors during the hottest part of the day, we have reorganised the schedule so that all morning events will be completed by 11.15am. 

Please note the change of times: 

9:10am to 10:10am - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

10:15am to 11:15am - Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

To help ensure the day can be as safe and successful as possible, we kindly ask that all children arrive at school with sun cream already applied, bring a named sun hat and have a named water bottle with them. These simple measures will help us to keep everyone as cool, hydrated and comfortable as possible throughout the morning.

The safety and wellbeing of our children, staff and families must always be our highest priority. As you will appreciate, the recent hot weather has been particularly challenging for many of our children. Once children become overheated, it can be difficult for them to regulate their body temperature, often leaving them feeling very tired, uncomfortable or unwell. As our event involves extended periods of time outdoors, we must carefully consider the risks before making a final decision.

At the moment we are happy about the new arrangements. However, we will continue to monitor the latest weather forecasts over the weekend and will notify families by Sunday if there are any changes to Monday morning. We appreciate that this may cause some uncertainty, but thank you for your understanding, patience and continued support as we make the decision that is in the best interests of everyone's safety.

Hagley RC High School - Music Tour - Summer 2026

We were treated to a fantastic start to the week on Monday morning with a special performance from the Hagley RC High School Irish Band Tour. The talented group, which included several former pupils, entertained the children with an energetic and engaging concert that had everyone smiling from start to finish.

Our children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with comments including, "They were brilliant!", "I loved it!", "I want to play the drums when I am older!" and "They were ace!" It was wonderful to see how inspired the children were by the musicians' enthusiasm, skill and passion.

A huge thank you to Mr Mallinson and the Irish Band and for taking the time to visit us and share their talents. Opportunities like this are invaluable, enriching our curriculum and inspiring the next generation of musicians, performers and artists. We hope this memorable visit has sparked a lifelong love of music in many of our pupils.

Leavers' Mass

Today, we gathered to celebrate a beautiful Leavers' Mass for our Year 6 children and their families. It was a truly special and reverent occasion, giving us the opportunity to reflect on the children's journey through St Ambrose's and to give thanks for the many memories, achievements and friendships they have made along the way.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Canon Lamb for leading the celebration so thoughtfully, to our readers and altar servers for carrying out their roles with such confidence and reverence, and to our wonderful Year 6 pupils, who participated so respectfully throughout the Mass.

At the end of the celebration, each child was presented with a certificate recognising the unique qualities, talents and values they have shown during their time at St Ambrose's. It was a fitting conclusion to a joyful celebration, and we are incredibly proud of every one of them as they prepare for the exciting journey ahead.

Summer Fete

What a fantastic way to end the day with our annual Summer Fete in the parish hall and grounds. The afternoon was filled with excitement, laughter and a wonderful sense of community as families enjoyed the many games, class stalls, refreshments and, of course, plenty of delicious ice creams. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces making the most of the afternoon and supporting our school.

A huge thank you goes to our incredible PTA for their unwavering dedication, enthusiasm and countless hours of hard work in organising such a successful event. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the additional parents who generously gave up their time to volunteer this week. Your support was greatly appreciated, and it was wonderful to see so many members of our school community working together to make the event such a success.

Thank you also to our children and staff for their creativity and enthusiasm in designing and running the class stalls, helping to make the fair such an enjoyable fundraising event for everyone.

There is still time to be in with a chance of winning one of our fantastic raffle hampers and special prizes! Raffle tickets will continue to be on sale throughout next week, with the lucky winners being drawn on Thursday, our final day of the academic year. Good luck to everyone who has entered, and thank you once again for your continued generosity and support.

Also the PTA still have a selection of sweets, ice creams and ice lollies left over from the Summer Fete. These will be on sale after school from Monday to Wednesday next week, while stocks last. Thank you once again for your continued support. Every purchase helps to raise valuable funds for our school.

Archbishop's Visit – Sunday 12th July

Canon Lamb warmly invites all members of our school community—including staff, parents, carers and children—to join the parish in welcoming the Archbishop during his visit on Sunday 12th July. Mass will take place at 11.00 am, followed by a celebration with refreshments in the Hall, Lounge and Rectory Garden.

The parish is encouraging everyone to come together to celebrate our wonderfully diverse community. National groups are invited, where possible, to wear traditional dress and share food and refreshments from their home countries. There will also be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the celebrations, with the school helping to decorate the grounds and Canon Lamb encouraging everyone to join in the fun—perhaps with a colourful hat, an eye-catching tie or some wonderfully outrageous socks!

We hope many families will be able to attend this joyful community celebration.

Free School Meals – Check if you are eligible

The Department for Education has recently updated the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals. This means some families may now qualify, even if they have not been eligible in the past.

If you receive Universal Credit, you should apply. We strongly encourage all families to check their eligibility and submit an application.

To apply, you will need:

• Your name
• Your National Insurance number
• Your date of birth
