Message from Mrs Laskey

Happy New Year and I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with family and friends. On Monday the children all came back refreshed and eager to start the Spring Term, but we could not start without a visit to pantomime land. This year all children were able to watch the pantomime of the traditional tale ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children were the perfect audience as they cheered the goodies and booed the baddies. Miss Crumpler and Miss Morgan were selected to join the cast at one point to demonstrate their own dance moves – well done to you both. It was a joyful afternoon for all the children and staff to come together and enjoy something special. Thank you to TAPP who were able to support this enrichment from the fundraising that took place last year.

On Wednesday morning we celebrated Mass together and as we are still in the season of Christmas Canon Lamb had asked each class to think of a promise or gift that they could offer this year. Class representatives shared with us all their class promises and then lay them in the crib. The promises truly demonstrate the children’s understanding of the virtues and the Catholic social teachings of stewardship, solidarity, the common good and human dignity. Nursery also thought of one altogether.  Well done everyone. Please see below for our promises made.

Thank you also to our wonderful readers who always ensure that we can hear the word of God clearly and to the altar servers who showed reverence.

Nursery We will share our toys and be a good friend.
Reception We will be better listeners to all our friends.
Year One We will show love and kindness to our friends and family.
Year Two We will be grateful for the gifts that God has given us.
Year Three We will be active and compassionate by being kind to others, having respect and helping others.
Year Four We will be more generous and loving to others.
Year Five We will share our God given talents with the world and celebrate the talents of others.
Year Six We will show curiosity towards our learning, be confident in our abilities and be determined to succeed.

Some of the children have returned after Christmas with new earrings and nail varnish.  Can I please remind you of the school policy for general appearance.

Haircuts - tidy (not extreme). Hair gel, hair spray, hair dyes and other styling products should not be worn in school.

Hair styles - hair longer than shoulder length must be tied up with a simple hair tie or scrunchie. Large crocodile clips are not to be worn. Ribbons or large bows should not be worn.

Jewellery - children can have a watch or a single pair of stud earrings. No other jewellery is allowed.

Makeup - children are not allowed to wear makeup to school.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend.

Spelling Shed

This week we are launching our new way of teaching and learning spellings from Year 1 to Year 6. Your child will receive a letter with their login details. Class teachers will be setting spelling assignments each week for your child. They will be able to practise their spellings in a fun and engaging way through a series of games. They will also have specific spelling lessons in school and a spelling check of their assignment words.
Miss Brewer will be holding a parent drop in session on Monday 13th January at 3.30pm to offer any support in accessing the spelling shed app.

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

The Attendance Policy 2024-2025 states that:
Parents are asked to inform the school before 8.50a.m. on their child's first day of absence. This can be done via telephone (01562 823568) or email (enquiry_amb@emmausmac.com).  Parents are asked to keep the school informed of the child's continued absence if it does not constitute the 48 hours rule for the sickness bug.

We will continue sending out regular communications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

Times of the School Day

8.40a.m. Gates open

8.50a.m. Gates close and registration in class

8.50a.m. - 9.20a.m. Late before close of register
