FEEL GOOD FRIDAY
Why is Feel Good Friday celebrated?
Feel Good Friday is a simple way of taking a moment in a busy week to make yourself and others feel good.
Today we all wore an item of red as it is nearly Valentine's day to help us FEEL GOOD.
SAINT VALENTINE'S BAKE OFF
REMEMBER NEXT WEEK IS OUR ANNUAL VALENTINES BAKE OFF. SEE THE POSTER BELOW FOR DETAILS. HAPPY BAKING!
PYRAMID CONCERT
A reminder to all Year 5 families that tickets for the Emmaus Pyramid Concert on 13 February are still on sale. The concert, this year held at Birmingham Symphony Hall, is a fabulous very memorable event. The Year 5 children have worked so hard with Mr Mallinson from Hagley High School and with Mr Pitt to ensure they perform to the very best of their ability. Tickets can be purchased via ParentPay at £5.00 per ticket. There will also be a DVD of the evening , again to order on ParentPay at £5.00. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
We are extending the offer to parents of Year 4 also. If you would like to see what awaits your child next year tickets can be purchased for adults with Year 4 children going free. Contact the school office if you are interested.
We are so excited to see Year 5 perform and show off their wonderful singing talents - good luck for Monday!
PARENTS EVENING
It was great to see parents at parents evening on Monday. Staff are looking forward to the next parents evening on Wednesday 15th February.
Parents Evening appointments can be booked via school life.
INTERNET SAFETY DAY
The theme for Safer Internet Day 2023 was:
Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online.
St Ambrose started the day with a KS1/KS2 assembly, and began to think about the benefits of the internet, but also some of the dangers.
The children then worked through a variety of activities in their classes, thinking all the time about how it's so important that we stay safe on the internet, and share any concerns with a trusted adult!
CURRICULUM IN ACTION
YEAR 3 MUSIC
Year 3 are really enjoying learning to play the recorder. So far, we have learnt the notes B and A!
YEAR 4 ART
In Year 4 this half term, we have been learning about sound. This week, we were learning about pitch and how to change the pitch. We used plastic straws to create our own kazoo and blew into them to hear the sound. We then kept cutting parts of our straw off to see what would happen to the pitch. We learnt that the pitch and frequency was higher the shorter the straw was.
RE QUESTIONNAIRE FOR PARENTS
Thank you to the parents who have already completed this survey. We would be very grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete it using the link below to help us gain insight into RE and Catholic Life of our school from your perspective.
FUNDRAISING
Our wonderful TAPP group are always working so hard behind the scenes to help us raise money for school and to provide exciting opportunities for our pupils. We are delighted to say that 'Yes' day raised an amazing £247.92, which will go towards school trips.
Last week's class fundraising for Tonie's raised a total of £153.65. Co-ordinated by our reading ambassadors, each class voted for which 'Tonie' they would like to purchase with the monies raised. The results were for Tangled, Zog, Mr Bean, Minions, Stick man, Oi Frog and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which will all be available in our library very soon!
Thank you to everyone who supports us.
YEAR 6 PARENT'S SATS WORKSHOP
We will be holding a parents SATs workshop on Thursday 2nd March at 9.00am. This will provide parents with an opportunity to find out about what is expected of our Year 6 pupils and how you can help your child prepare in the best way for them.
ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.
We will begin sending out regular push notifications again about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.
Year Group | Weekly Attendance | Term Attendance |
Whole School | 95.1% | 93.3% |
Reception | 87.5% | 91.2% |
Year 1 | 94.3% | 89.5% |
Year 2 | 96.3% | 93.6% |

Year 4 | 97.4% | 93.9% |
Year 5 | 96.6% | 94.4% |

Over the next few weeks Mrs Brocklesby will be arranging meetings to support any families where attendance is a concern.

VIRTUES: ELOQUENT & TRUTHFUL
This half term, we are growing to be eloquent and truthful in what we say about ourselves, the relations between people, and the world. As a school, we will help our pupils grow by developing an eloquent language which they can use to understand and articulate their emotions, belief, and questions and will encourage them to be truthful in the way they represent themselves and speak about the world.
We would love to hear if your child has been eloquent and truthful at home - please email year6_amb@emmausmac.com to let Miss Holtom know and she will arrange for your child to have a special certificate at the end of this half term in our special virtues assembly.

STAY SAFE ONLINE
Please read the following tips to share with your son or daughter about staying safe online:
- Never give out personal information. This includes online people you know as well. Keep them private!
- Never send pictures of yourself because once it’s online, it’s there forever, and it could get into the wrong hands.
- Don’t make friends with people you don’t know. People are not always who they say they are.
- Tell your parents/carers what you’re doing online so they can act fast if there are any issues and can vet whether the website is safe for use
- Leave the website and tell a trusted adult immediately if you see something that concerns you or makes you feel unsafe
- Never show your real name, age or where you live in your username
- Use strong passwords which have a mix of numbers, letters and symbols
- Do not share passwords with others
- Don’t open an attachment unless you’re 100% sure it’s safe
- Don’t let strangers into your video calls. Blur your background so you don’t give away any information about where you are.
- Be careful who you webcam with
- Don’t meet up with someone you’ve only met online
- Be nice online
- Think before your post! This applies to when you send or forward content.
Please see the confirmed term dates below for 2022/23.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Brocklesby
