From Madeline Roy

World Day of Prayer Friday 1st March at 10.30am at St. Ambrose's Church. A plea to everyone to join the Service, written by the women of Palestine, to unite with all people of peace in Israel. Year Six children and staff will be supporting this event.

Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Today all staff and children participated in a school lockdown drill. The drill started with an assembly followed by an opportunity to answer any questions the children had.

There are many reasons why a school may need to keep their children, staff and visitors on the premises safe – ranging from a dangerous dog roaming loose to an incident or disturbance in the local community which poses a risk to the school. Environmental hazards such as a smoke plume or gas cloud may also be a risk for some geographical areas.

The purpose of the lockdown is to keep everyone safe inside the school building. Just like a fire alarm, a lockdown keeps us all safe. Thank you to everyone for your support and if you would like to discuss the assembly with your son or daughter you will see a copy below.

Message from Mrs Laskey

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you all had a lovely half term break despite the mixed weather.

Last week it was Ash Wednesday which signifies the start of the liturgical season of Lent. During the Gospel Prayer and Liturgy on Monday, the children were all introduced to the season and its importance of growing closer to God.  Through discussions and the writing of Lenten promises the children have considered ways that they can pray, fast and give during their Lenten journey of faith.

Yesterday and today, I met with some members of the Liturgical Group and they have been busy preparing some new prayer activities in the ‘Stop and Pray’ areas of the school.  They have been very proactive in arranging the activities and we look forward to them starting next week.

The Live Simply Ambassadors are going to be encouraging us to support the charities of Father Hudson’s Society and CAFOD and you will be hearing from them very soon.

Please use the link The God Who Speaks for more information about Lent and some lovely family activities that you could do during the season of Lent.

Today we celebrated a Virtues and Values Assembly for Compassionate and Loving.  It was wonderful to hear how the children had been demonstrating these virtues through their everyday lives and why they had been nominated by their friends and adults that work in their classrooms. I explained to all the children that having only been here a short time, I can see how they all demonstrate these virtues and how they care and look after their friends at school.  On Monday, we will be focusing on the new virtues of Faith-filled and Hopefulness.

I wish you all a lovely weekend.

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.

We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.

On Friday 2nd February, Miss Noble and Mrs Joyner took Year 3 and 4 pupils to Holy Trinity for the Wyre Forest School Sports Partnership Swimming Gala and Aquasplash festival. The children competed against other schools in both individual and team races; some that required building a speed boat and fetching different swimming apparatus. The children were keen to take part and although we did not place, the children had a great time.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and cheered everyone on in their races, even the other schools!

Well done, St Ambrose!
