Friday 22nd March 2024
WE WILL RETURN TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY 8TH APRIL.
Message from Mrs Brocklesby
We’ve managed to pack a lot of good work and many activities in to this term and now everyone is ready to enjoy a holiday. We started the day by gathering in church for Mass to prepare for Holy Week. Thank you to all the readers and servers and to all the children for their wonderful responses and singing. Canon Lamb would love to see our families in church this holiday so do try to make one of the Masses over Easter. We wish you all a blessed week next week and the joy of the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday.
A huge thank you to Mrs Downs who, for a number of years, has made these wonderful Easter chicks with a chocolate surprise inside for the Reception children. The time and thought put into these lovely gifts is very much appreciated!
Message from Mrs Laskey
Dear Parents and Carers
Everyday this week we have gathered as a school to remember the key events of Holy Week. On Monday we started with Year Four and the event of Palm Sunday. The children acted out Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem by shouting hosanna, hosanna.
On Tuesday, Year Five reminded us of an event that is often forgotten, the destroying of the temple. As Jesus entered the temple he was angry at the fact that the market traders had taken over and that the temple was no long a house of prayer. Year Five portrayed this through acting, singing and prayer. They asked us all to think about, does temptation get in the way of worship?
Year Three led the prayer and liturgy on Wednesday about the Last Supper which is significant to their learning in class and for those who are preparing to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist. They helped us to remember that the Last Supper was the first Mass and the importance of the words ‘Do this in memory of me’.
Yesterday Year Six took us all on the journey of the cross. Through prayer, singing and freeze frames all children and adults took time to remember the true sacrifice that was made by Jesus. All children showed great reverence and responded to ‘We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you’ by saying altogether ‘Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world’.
Some of the children’s thoughts about the week were,
Florence H- ‘I liked when they read from the Bible’.
Paddy- ‘It was a really special meal. Jesus held up bread and wine’.
Grace- ‘I liked the freeze frames of each station’.
Lily- ‘The song made us think of Jesus during Holy Week’.
Well done to all the children in Key Stage Two for their dedication to the roles in portraying the significant events.
Please see below the times of the Holy Week events and Easter Mass Times at St Ambrose Church next week. On Maundy Thursday a selection of boys from school will be present and take part in the washing of the feet. Thank you to all the boys and their families for supporting this.
During the week Canon Lamb has been in school hearing confessions with some of our children in Year Four, Year Five and Year Six.
It was a lovely afternoon yesterday when the children showed such creativity and enthusiasm at the Easter bonnet parade. Each bonnet was marvellous and they were adorned with fluffy chicks, colourful eggs and blossoming flowers. A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for this special event. Your support and involvement makes all the difference and it was lovely to see so many of you there. Thank you to Mrs. Wallace and TAPP for your continued support and organising this special event. Thank you also to the Easter Bunny for taking time out of his busy schedule to see all the children in school and for the photo shoot in the afternoon. There was such a lovely buzz on the playground at the end of the day.
Thank you for your continued support this term and I wish you and your families a very joyful Easter. See you all on Monday 8th April.
Mrs Laskey.
We would like to say a huge congratulations to Samuel in Y5 who received a distinction in his music exam this week.

Regular attendance at school means that your child will make the most of their education and improve their chances later on in life. At St Ambrose, good attendance is of high importance and we strive to have at least 96% attendance. Please help us with this target. If you need any support, then school is here to help so that your child can get the very best out of the education we provide.
We will continue sending out regular push notifications about attendance so that you are aware if you child falls below our 96% target and we are working with Louise Howles, our Education Welfare Officer to support us with improvements.
